A-Rock-Alypse!
Hey, what with the world rapidly coming to an end, how about some good ol' Armageddeon-flavoured music?

I'll start...

XTC - This World Over

Ah well, that's this world over
Ah well, next one begins

Will you smile like any mother
As you bathe your brand new twins?
Will you sing about the missiles
As you dry odd-numbered limbs?

Ah well, that's this world over
Ah well, next one begins
Ah well, that's this world over
You sadly grin

Will you tell them about that far off and mythical land?
About their leader with the famous face?
Will you tell them that the reason nothing ever grows in the garden anymore
Because he wanted to win the craziest race?
That's this world over

Will you smile like any father
With your children on a Sunday hike?
When you get to a sea of rubble
And they ask ``What was London like?''

You tell them, ``Ah well, that's the world over''

Will you tell them about that far off and mythical land
And how a child to the Virgin came?
Will you tell them that the reason why we murdered everything upon the surface of the world
So we can stand right up and say we did it in His name?

That's this world over
Or so it seems
That's this world over
The end of dreams

That's this world over, over, over and out....

The The - Armageddon Days are Here Again

They’re 5 miles high
As the crow flies
Leavin’ vapour trails
Across a blood red sky
Movin’ in from the East
Towards the West
With balaclava helmets
Over their heads
YES!

But if you think that Jesus Christ is coming
Honey, you’ve got another thing coming
If he ever finds out who’s hijacked his name
He’ll cut out his heart and turn in his grave

Islam is rising
The Christians mobilising
The world is on it’s elbows and knees
It’s forgotten the message
And worships the creeds

“It’s War” she cried
“It’s War” she cried
“This is War!”
Drop your possessions
All you simple folk
You will fight them on the beaches
in your underclothes
You will thank the good Lord
For raising the Union Jack
You’ll watch the ships sail out of harbour
And the bodies come floating back
Watch the ships sail out of harbour
And the bodies come floating back

If the real Jesus Christ were to stand up today
He’d be gunned-down cold by the C.I.A.
Oh, the lights that now burn brightest
Behind stained glass
Will cast the darkest shadows
Upon the human heart
But God didn’t build himself that throne
God doesn’t live in Israel or Rome
God doesn’t belong to the Yankee dollar
God doesn’t plant the bombs for Hezbollah
God doesn’t even go to church
And God won’t send us down to Allah to burn
God will remind us what we already know
That the human race is about to reap what it’s sown

Islam is rising
The Christians mobilising
The world is on it’s elbows and knees
It’s forgotten the message
And worships the creeds
The world is on it’s elbows and knees
It’s forgotten the message
And worships the creeds

Armageddon days are here again
Armageddon days are here again
Armageddon days are here again
Armageddon Days Are HERE!!!

And one more track by "The The" (Sweet Bird of Truth)

Six o'clock in the morning & I'm the last person in this plane still awake
Y'know I can almost smell the blood washing against the shores,
Of this land that can't forget its past.
Oh the wind that carries this plane, is the wind of change,
Heaven sent and hell bent!
Over the mountain tops we go, just like all the other GI Joes

Ee-ay-ee-ay----adios!

Chorus
This is your captain calling--with an urgent warning
Were above the Gulf of Arabia--our altitude is falling
And I can't hold her up--there's no time for thinking
All hands on deck--this bird is sinking

Across the beaches and cranes, rivers and trains
All the money Ive made--bodies Ive maimed.
Time was when I seemed to know,
Just like any other GI Joe
Should I cry like a baby, or die like a man
While all the planets like wars start joining hands?
Oh what a heaven--what a hell!!
Y'know theres nothing can be done in the whole wide world.

I don't know what's wrong or right,
I'm just a regular guy, with bottled-up insides,
I ain't ever been to church or believed in Jesus Christ
But I'm praying that God's with you when you die!!!

And just for fun.......

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes

Reagan: "Ladies and gentlemen, let me present
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Possibly the most important thing
This side of the world."

Oh yeah, well 'ard!

Reagan: "You may pronounce us guilty a thousand times over, but the goddess of the
Eternal court of history will smile and tear to tatters the brief of the
State prosecutor and the sentence of this court, for she acquits us
Condemn me
Condemn me
Condemn me
History will absolve
Singing "this will be the day that i die"."

Yeahhhhhaaaa
(if your grandmother or any other member of your family should die whilst in the shelter,
Put them outside, but remember to tag them first for identification purposes.)
Go to war
Go to war
Go to war
Heh

Reagan: "Just think, war breaks out and nobody turns up."

Announcer: "if any member the family should die whilst in the shelter, put them outside,
But remember to tag them first for identification purposes.)
(if your grandmother or any other member of the family should die whil... ...dentification purposes.)"

Heh heh

Reagan: "It's enough to make you wonder sometimes if you're on the right planet."

Let's go

When two tribes go to war
A point is all you can score
When two tribes go to war
A point is all you can score

Cowboy no. 1
A born-again poor man's son
On the air, America
I modelled shirts by van Heusen-yeah

You know

Working on the black gas

Switch off your shield
Switch off and feel
I'm working on loving-yeah
Giving you back the good times
Ship it out-out
I'm working for the black gas

*(repeat)

We got two tribes
We got the bomb
We got the bomb-yeah
Sock it to me biscuits-now

Are we living in a land
Where sex and horror are the new gods?
Yeah

When two tribes go to war
A point is all you can score

4. Another XTC favorite -- "Living through Another Cuba"

Living through another Cuba
it's 1961 again and we are piggy in the middle
while war is polishing his drum and peace plays second fiddle
Russia and America are at each other's throats
but don't you cry
just on your knees and pray, and while you're
down there, kiss your arse goodbye
We're the bulldog on the fence
while others play their tennis overhead
it's hardly love all and somebody might
wind up red or dead
pour some oil on the water quick
it doesn't really matter where from
he love me, he loves me not
he's pulling fins from an atom bomb
This phenomenon happens every 20 years or so
if they're not careful your watch won't be the
only thing with a radioactive glow
I'll stick my fingers in my ears
and hope they make it up before too late
if we get through this lot alright
they're due for replay, 1998

5. The Call -- "The Walls Came Down"

The Call - The Walls Came Down

Well they blew the horns
And the walls came down
They’d all been warned
And the walls came down
They juststood there laughing
They’re not laughing anymore
The walls came down
Sanctuary fades
Congregation splits
Nightly military raids
The congregation splits
It’s a song of assassins
Ringin’ in your ears
We got terrorist thinking
Playing on fears
Well they blew the horns
And the walls came down
They’d all been warned
But the walls came down
I do’t think there are any russians
And there ain’t no yanks
Just corporate criminals
Playin’ with tanks

6. The Specials "Man At C&A"

Man At C & A
Hall / Dammers

Warning, warning, nuclear attack
Atomic sounds designed to blow your mind
World war three - Nuclear attack
Rocking atomically - This third world war - Atomic sounds

The man in black he told me the latest Moscow news about the storm across the red sea
They drove their ball point views

I'm the man in grey, I'm just the man at C & A
And I don't have a say in the war games that they play

Warning, warning, nuclear attack
Shark attack to hit you on your back
World war three

The Mickey Mouse badge told the Ayatollah at his feet
You drink your oil you schmuck, we'll eat our heads of wheat

I'm the man in grey, I'm just the man at C & A
And I don't have a say in the war games that they play

Boom shakalaka boom
Nuclear nuclear, nuclear war
Warning, warning, nuclear attack
The boom never ban
Shark attack

7. In the 80s, CBC's Brave New Waves used to play "The Apocalypso"
I don't know who did it, and I can't remember many lyrics...

The Apocalypso is the ultimate step
And once you get started
You ain't never, never, ever gonna stop

It was one of those Canadian politically-aware dance songs.

9. ...and it reminded me of this little gem:
The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum

I see a clinic full of cynics
Who want to twist the peoples' wrist
They're watching every move we make
We're all included on the list

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum

Go nuclear the cowboy told us
And who am I to disagree?
'cos when the madman flips the switch
The nuclear will go for me

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum

I've seen the faces of starvation
But I just can not see the points
'cos there's so much food here today
That no one wants to take away

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum

The lunatics have taken over the asylum - take away my right to choose
The lunatics have taken over the asylum - take away my point of view
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum - take away my dignity, take these things away from me
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum - take away my family, take awaythe right to speak
The lunatics have taken over the asylum take away my point of view, takeaway my right to choose

12. Husker DU, "Newest Industry:"
Been through mass destruction once, but once was not enough

Said we want a second chance, and all they say is tough

A world where science went too far, there's no way to survive

Why can't we get this thing straightened out, I want to stay
alive

They burned and bombed the east and north and there's no place
left to go

The sun belt's overcrowded, so let's annex Mexico

The peso's only worth a dime, but they've got all that land

No need for a civil war, we know they'll understand, right?

Is that how you like it?

Factories left unattended, crumbling to the ground

We tried to keep them running, but there's no more oil around

We used it all to fight a war that neither side could win

Vietnam was Little League compared to where we've been

Now we live in caves and huts, and we don't have pay TV

And everyone is signing up for the newest industry

Standard Oil goes solar power, all try to make a buck

So I'll sit around and smoke cigarettes, and I'll babble "What
the fuck

You will sign up for the newest industry

You will sign up for the newest industry

You will sign up for the newest industry

Of course, there's "Paranoid Chant" by the Minutemen, too:

I try to work and I keep thinking of World War III

I try to talk to girls and I keep thinking of World War III

The goddamn six o'clock news makes sure I keep thinking of World War III

I got a mile of numbers and a ton of stats

Of warheads

A billion Chinese and warheads

I don't even worry about crime anymore

So many goddamn scared faces

I keep thinking of Russia, of Russia

Paranoid

Scared shitless

13. 8 1/2 Minutes--The Dismemberment Plan
Oh, launched all the world's nukes this morning
Hoping it would kick-start something
Some of them went off course and hit the moon instead
It was kinda pretty.
Hasn't been a whole lot of looting
On the other hand, oh, it's fucking freezing
Someone on TV said something about going underground
Guess we better start digging.

What were you doing for those eight and a half minutes?
Was it mean, was it petty, or did you realize you were sorry
And that you love them?

I saw an astronomer break down on CNN
He said, "I'm a scientist, not your fucking clergyman!"
And no one's going nowhere 'cause the cars are all frozen
They give the power plants ten days

But the sky is like a dome of black metal flake
And stars bleed together in phosphorescent lakes
And a dead black disk slides silently overhead
It's fucking beautiful is what it is.

What were you doing for those eight and a half minutes?
Was it mean, was it petty, or did you realize you were sorry
And that you love them?

When I die I'm going to heaven
Leave it to the cockroaches and the 7-11s
But it'd be nice to think we could get it right down here just once.

14. Steely Dan - King of the World
Hello one and all
Was it you I used to know
Can't you hear me call
On this old ham radio
All I got to say
I'm alive and feeling fine
If you come my way
You can share my poison wine
CHORUS:
No marigolds in the promised land
There's a hole in the ground
Where they used to grow
Any man left on the Rio Grande
Is the king of the world
As far as I know

I don't want your bread
I don't need your helping hand
I can't be no savage
I can't be no highwayman
Show me where you are
You and I will spend this day
Driving in my car
Through the ruins of Santa Fe

CHORUS

I'm reading last year's papers
Although I don't know why
Assassins cons and rapers
Might as well die

If you come around
No more pain and no regrets
Watch the sun go brown
Smoking cobalt cigarettes
There's no need to hide
Taking things the easy way
If I stay inside
I might live til Saturday

CHORUS
