I got her! I got her! I got her on the first try!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I got Smudge! On the first try!

The preggers feral - fluffy black kitty - is now lounging in the comfort of a 5 x 4 x 3 cage. She doesn't know why she's there and I imagine she's pretty unhappy. OTOH she doesn't have to hunt or fight for food anymore; Daddy the Asshole won't chase her anymore (GOD what an asshole that cat is); and she won't have to have her kittens where they could be in danger of predators. AND she doesn't have to worry about them when she leaves for food. AND she doesn't have to worry about where to GET food - good food, ample food, and quickly - so she can get back to her litter.

:woohoo:

Best of all: I won't have yet another litter of feral cats to worry about!

:woohoo:

See this thread for a picture of her.

Oreo doesn't sit still long enough for a good picture:

21. Thanks.
Roo, the gorgeous Tabby, passed away last year. Binky's hanging in there, and Oreo acts like she's a very young cat. She and Roo were littermates. Believe it or not, they're 16.

No, I don't have a recent photo. These are at least 10 years old. Oreo looks exactly the same, but is sans collar. (she kept taking it off, so I thought "why bother?")

3. Congratulations!!
But I worry... are there state laws or county ordinances that put any limits on the number of cats someone can keep (or care for?)

DIG the cartoon. I know it's from The Simpsons (or at least Matt Groenin (sp?)) but does she have a name -- other than Crazy Cat Lady?

13. achhh....
I often wonder how I can be grateful for support like yours while simultaneously saying "I'm not special, I'm not a great person. I just do what I can." It's a puzzle I'll probably never solve. And it's not admiration I seek. It's CELEBRATION!
:woohoo:

Yes. Wearing my rasser frasser bra! AARRRRRRGGHHHHH! But tomorrow I get to have a REAL SHOWER -- AND I get to take the bandage off. It's making me itch!

And the itch...I get that because am sensitive to latex...glad to hear you get to remove the bandage & shower tomorrow! I hated having to take standing washcloth clean ups for almost two weeks after knee surgery...

Make it a long one! ;)

25. For future joint surgeries (God forbid) look up a thing called XeroSox
The one I had for my ankle looked like a cross between a Christmas stocking and an old-fashioned hot water bottle. Only it was blue.

It's rubber and stretches over the cast or brace or whatever, and you use a bulb pump to suck all the air out of it. That makes it completely watertight. You can swim in these things. They're great!

15. You know what, DA? This one deserves no applause because it was the
EASIEST time I've ever had trapping a cat. I set it and baited it ONCE. About an hour later, she came along. I saw her coming up the deck stairs and skedaddled from the back door so she wouldn't see me. I went into the kitchen to cut broccoli and heard SNAP!

:woohoo:

23. Welcome to DU, haf216
:bounce:

I care for a small feral colony all on my own. I'm building a web site for educating the people in my own county; I hope, in time, to be able to take care of others' feral "problems" so they don't poison or shoot the critters. I also go out with Alley Cat Allies on their big weekend TNR (trap-neuter-return) days.

For taking that on your own. I in a small rescue group (have a foster kitten on my lap right now). I know you must have a handful with all you are doing. Do you spay or neuter "your" colony?

28. Yes, as much as I can.
I have one tom & one queen, both "unfixed" because they're too smart to get into a trap. And the queen has a litter that's about 9 weeks old. Time to start trapping them.

I really hope once I get all of those spayed that no other jerks abandon their cats out here. I'm in a semi-rural area, and when we moved in these cats were here.

Bless you back. You rock. :hi:

doing a great thing. If we could just get everyone to understand that spay/neuter saves lives, both our lives would be easier.
