Watching Cat Cora just drives home what a useless, artless shit Flay is. |
|
Watching Flay is kind of impressive; but then, when one gets to watch an amazing chef like Cat Cora (or, in tonight's show, this guy who was the White House chef from 1994 to 2005, fucking amazing), one can see just what a fake, moron trendy idiot Bobby Flay is.

1. I have to be eating a huge meal if I'm gonna watch the Food Network. |
|
Otherwise, I get REAL hungry.

3. And he doesn't even grill all that artistically or interestingly. |
|
I really don't get the Flay obsession - and when I was first watching him, I had no idea what a truly famous guy he was, and he just rubbed me wrong and I wasn't impressed. And now that I've come to realize what a famous guy he is, I can only ask, "Why?"
I don't get it.
Mario, Cat, and so many others are so far more talented than Flay. I don't find him to be creative, overly skilled, or all that interesting - kind of a one-trick pony. Hell, I'd rather have Emeril or Barefoot Contessa than him in the Iron Chef category.

13. Maybe the Mango Growers of America |
|
(or whatever the name of that particular group is) sponsor his show.
He is a bit of a non cook, though.

I've seen Flay on Emeril's, and he seemed a little stiff but ok.
Flay always seems to well on Iron Chef America, a show that is a closet pleasure of mine. I'm a fan of simpler, grilled if possible, and intensely flavored foods. I've looked at Flay's recipes online, they always seemed a tad too complicated for the result. Has anyone tried any of Flay's recipes?
Epicurious has been one of my favorite recipe web sites, most that I tried are good, all are easy and fast. Anyone else have any favorites?

5. welcome to DU, IndyBob! |

I've never tried any of flay's recipes, that I can remember. There are many on food network I like better, but I don't really have anything against him, I guess.
Welcome! :hi:

8. Being a nice guy has no bearing on one's skill level or artistic value. |
|
He might be nice as hell - he's still, in my opinion, not a very creative or interesting chef.

i like the food and drink in his restaurant and prob. don't care if he created it or ripped it off because to me cooking is all about the rip-offs
so i like him and his food just fine
but i see what you're getting at, you're saying he is not an innovator
well everybody can't be

I saw an episode where the secret ingredient was Bison, and the challenger was also a BBQ specialist. I would have shot the pope to have some of what they were creating.
One thing about Iron Chef, I am a huge fan, but is there a more pretentious group of people than food critics. It takes some balls to tell these world famous Chefs that what they prepared wasn't good enough for you.

12. Yup. Nothing like a pro with style. I was just watching the Learning |
|
channel and though the schedule said Jaques Pepin, this female chef from Napa baked some pineapple with vanilla served in filo dough cups. She was so warm, calm and rhythmic. Nothing like a typical TV chef. She casually droppped so many different little pearls of wisdom as she puttered trhough her meal. We were blown away. Wish I knew her name. She was of Mexican descent.
