from a Portland TV station yesterday. It was an automated survey. First it asked me if I like creamy or crunchy peanut butter, then asked me if I was a Democrat, a Republican, or other affiliation. A real non-sequitor of a survey. There were a couple other questions, but I've already forgotten what they were.

1. I once got a call from the city asking me about water service |
|
that quickly segued into a long distance survey. Stealth attack! I called both my city council reps and complained vociferously.

2. Poorly designed omnibus survey. |
|
Omnibus surveys were a popular device to poll on one or two questions inexpensively by tagging them onto a different sponsor's survey. When done in a slap dash way they had bad transitions from topic A to topic B and would seem confusing to the respondent. Depending on your answer to a specific question you may have been asked a longer series of questions if you fit the targeted demographic. If it sounded really choppy it may be that you weren't in the targeted category.
The survey may not have been designed by someone who understands the importance of structuring the flow of questions for all permutations.
