'Miami Vice' 3 full hours on primetime NBC tomorrow night
Talk about NOTHNG being on TV this is worse than nothing. Stupendous promotion of a movie based on a really horrible TV show.

They are showing the TV pilot. Wonder if they will show any Frank Zappa clips

8/7c Saturday, July 22
MIAMI VICE: UNDERCOVER
Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx host a three-hour Miami Vice event that takes you back in time with the original 2-hour Miami Vice pilot - now in HD! - and up to the present with an original featurette on acclaimed director Michael Mann's new take on his own '80's classic. Don't miss a car chase, explosion, Don Johnson's infamous wardrobe, or a special sneak peek at this summer's hottest blockbuster... Miami Vice!

1. Some things need to be left alone
I'm embarrassed to admit I watched the TV show (OK so I was clueless and in high school)

3. the original miami vice was an excellent TV show.
didn't need big pyrotechics or car chase every week, tho there were some.

but you know in the movie theyre gonna blow up the world.

4. The first two seasons were great entertainment
I was in college, we had MV parties every Friday night in the 1985/86 school year. After the second season, when they killed off the fat guy's partner and blew up the first Ferrari (although that was a good episode), it went downhill.

There were some great cop shows in the 80s-Vice, Crime Story, Hill Street Blues, Wiseguy.

Still, though, the best cop show ever was "Homicide: Life on the Streets".

5. It's Michael Mann's baby, but it's gonna suck
He has every right to desecrate his creation - but its too bad he doesnt realize it was the snapshot of teh 80's that sold us, not ths tory

6. i still remember some of the episodes, the guy in the wall, that was one
of my favorite ones. It is hilarious to look at the wardrobe from that show, dear god the 80's were a fashion disaster.

7. IMO, it was Jan Hammer's music that made that show
It's incredible and set some amazing, very 1980s moods. It's astonishing that the guy produced a full hour-long soundtrack every week.

Hammer was invited to do the music for this new movie, but he declined. I probably won't be seeing it.

8. i loved Miami Vice
Maybe because our family used to vacation on South Florida in the 80s.

I wonder how they can screw it up with the new movie?

10. I'm looking forward to the movie.
Seriously. Say what you want about the TV. There's no good reason a plot revolving around undercover drug agents in Miami and points south can't make for a damn good movie.

11. The 1984 pilot in HD? Um, it's the same original resolution,
so HD viewers will get to see how crappy the cool technology was 22 years ago.

I hope they cleaned up the video tape and all the dropouts...

Of course, if it was filmed, the grain will show...
