How Many of You Stll Have a Turntable?
I just dusted off an old DUAL 10 10 turntable from my basement and hooked it up to the stereo. I am now listening to old records. Oh Joy!

8. We got in an argument.
I wasn't even living with her at the time, but still had stuff there. So told me to get out and then she put all my stuff into the garage that flooded. It rained the next day and a bunch of my stuff got wrecked. The thing that really bothers me most about the records is they belonged to my dad and they were one of the few things I got when he died.

the flood did that. It is not like she caused or expected the flood is it? Or did the garage flood all the time?

a Denon with a beautiful wood base and it's never been disconnected. It's about 30 years old. Got to have something to play those old LPs that will never be made into CDs

11. it still works great
we bought it BC (before children) when we still had "cash flow" My husband was totally into sound systems back then.
Now that the kids are grown and starting to move out, he's getting interested again...surround sound stuff and all that. IMO, they just clutter up the house with too many remotes!

Where do you buy new stylus (styli)? Needles? My old turntable desperately needs one. Who sells that type of equipment these days?

One project this summer is to start digitizing all that vinyl.

But no way am I selling it after that's done.

A Dual 530, the one with a strobe to show that the tt's speed is correct. Plays like a dream. I recently had my repair guy upgrade the crummy interconnect and ground wire. It sounds better than ever.

23. Me! Me! Me!
I use my record player (turn table) a heckuva lot more than my CD player. Every pop, scratch and warp on every album is a fond memory and almost as much fun as the album itself. I can pop on some Moody Blues and think to myself, "ahhh, that particular scratch happened in 1983 when Lisa Buerlini threw my class ring at me (*hard*) and missed me by that much..." Good times. Good times.

Also, as an aside...
CD's spelled the death of Cover Art; and the best replacement the new generation has come up with so far is anime? Blech!

27. We thought we were so cool...
Officially, I have no idea what you're implying. Unofficially though, well... hehe. We called it "moving furniture" back in HS to throw nosy parents listening to phone conversations off the track. As used in a convesation:

"Hey, man; wanna help me move some furniture tonight?"

"Sure. Is it nice furniture?"

"Best this year. Great upholstery and it has that new furniture smell..."

"I'm on my way"

We thought we were so cool... lol

could use a better cartridge but it still sounds nice. I was running it through a vintage Sansui quadraphonic receiver which was simply amazing sounding before my Sansui went kaplooey. Now I use a Denon and us the 5.1 settings to spread the stereo vinyl mix around the room. I love being basked in the rich warmth of analog vinyl sound.

scratched, etc.
Been trying to slowly replace all essentials on CD, but not all of my vinyl has come out on CD so that's kind of discouraging.

My old Phillips 212 turntable got smashed in an unfortunate wrestling accident.

But my newer Aiwa stereo came with a turntable.

and I have a 1959 Telefunken Contessa console radio with a working record player. about 1/2 the size of the one pictured below.

and I have a 1954 AMi F-120 Jukebox that plays 45's.

and I have a 1967 Seeburg Phono-Jet jukebox that plays 45's.

and I have several 50's era portable record players.

and lots of vinyl, but never enough...

31. Have two twenty year old Technics,
One to use and the other for parts, just in case. Also have an old RCA Victor from the fifties that plays 78rpm. Slowly but surely I'm putting all of my vinyl onto CDs. Would love to play the vinyl from here to eternity, but sadly it wouldn't take such wear and tear, hence I'm digitizing it all.

35. I do!
I have my turntable (very expensive model that I bought used in 1981---best damn stereo component I ever bought!) and use it for recording my old records to CD. I have so many records that it will probably take me a year to transfer all of them. I don't play records just to listen to them any more because I'm afraid I'd never be able to replace the stylus if something happened to it.

A damn shame, we have god's own supply of vinyl over here at the family's house and nobody ever listens to it. I had to talk them all out of taking the component stereo over to Goodwill a few months back. I'm trying get it fixed up and wired back into the house system (we have speakers flush mounted in the ceiling, how f'n cool is that?!?!) so I can turn it up and have a good time with it while I'm here.

41. Dual CS-5000
with a Grado Black cartridge. I'm jonesing for a Technics SL-1200MkII though, there are some cool audiophile mods for that 'table. Good tables are still being made, heck Guitar Centers usually have the Technics (it's the most popular DJ turntable and is regarded among many audiophiles as a "sleeper" despite the usual audiophile habit of turning up one's nose at Japanese direct-drive turntables in favor of Scottish or British belt-drive TT's.) www.needledoctor.com has nice ProJect (Sumiko) and Music Hall turntables.

Audiophile vinyl is still pressed today as well, in fact more that it was 10 years ago. High-end audiophile tables can run into 5 figures, even...nosebleed prices, but the machines are stunning examples of modern art in themselves. But you don't have to put gas in a turntable and you can't play a boat.... :D

Posted a number of times in the last couple months since getting it about albums I've dug out of my collection and listened to - stuff I didn't even know I owned, since I went 12 years without a turntable.

I bought an old Pioneer PL510, still in the original box with all the original materials, and in great shape.

In fact, we have been uploading all of our vinyl into SonicStage. This project may take the years, as the only way to upload is to play the album through while in record mode, and we have perhaps 1000 albums. Hopefully they don't all make the cut!
