Roddy McDowall's dinner parties |
|
Okay, I started this over at my Last of Sheila thread, but does anyone know of the famous dinner parties Roddy McDowall use to throw? He always had famous people & often sat them next to some very interesting people.(usuually those who disagreed withoneanother over something. It would be like sitting Barbra Streisand next to Ann Coulter)I never read a book (Roddy never wrote his memoirs but man, I bet he could tell some great stories)about his dinner parties. Always someone mentioning them matter of factly. He also use to snap pictures of famous people & has several books on photography (Arnold Weissberger began this trend to at his dinner parties)
Anyone have any dinner party stories of Roddy's they've heard & would like to share?

2. Actually he DID write his memoirs... |
|
but they are to be held in private for 100 years after his death and then released. He reasoning was that anyone he talked about would be long dead and could not be hurt by what he said.
It is well known that Roddy was THE person in Hollywood who held ALL the secrets -- he was the man you went to if you needed to talk with someone and wanted to be assured they would never gossip.
He was legendary for his dinner parties AND his wealth of info on Hollwyood's biggest and brightest.

4. WOW! I did not know that! |
|
I also had no idea he knew so much. I LOVED Roddy! The man never said anything bad about anyone. A real class act! Would love to know more about his parties. Any reading suggestions? I learned alot about Sondheim's parties & games in a Tony Perkins biography. I bet Elizabeth Taylor could tell some great stories Roddy shared.
