Saw him live. Forget the name of the tour, but it wound up as a Showtime special.

When they show an empty seat flanked by a girl and a guy both with curly hair, that's my seat. I was off taking pictures. The girl was my girlfriend and the guy was my friend and the first sports editor I worked for.

:grr: One of my college friends tried to book him for a university event we were having, and his publicist said he would never set foot on that campus. :wtf: I don't recall the exact circumstances, but somehow she ended up talking to him directly, and he cussed her out. :mad: She did nothing to provoke it either.

Needless to say, I've never been a fan. And I think smashing watermelons and other food is idiotic and wasteful anyway. Definitely not humorous.

8. I thought he was funny in the 70's and early 80's.

Haven't seen much of him since then. After a couple of melon smashing, it got old pretty quick. Don't know what has become of him since then. In those days he did not seem like a freeper or racist. Some things can change though.

Sometime in the 90's, I took him to a Gallagher show in Orange County, CA. It was a Christmas gift. We were on our way to the show when he asked me who was in concert. I told him "It's a comedian." He guessed Gallagher. I said , "Yes." His next question was, "Where are we sitting?" I told him in the back row of the theater.
