Name something you've learned this week |
|
I'll mention something from the book I'm reading - Rednecks And Bluenecks: The Politics of Country Music (by Chris Willman.) I never knew that the major labels in Nashville are well represented by Democrats: Paul Worley, Tracy Gershon, John Grady, Tim DuBois (I have the same last name - cool,) Joe Galante, and Luke Lewis among them. On the Repuke side are James Stroud, Tony Brown, and Mark Wright.
Unfortunately, I also learned that singer Miranda Lambert is a Repuke. That means my two favorite country albums from last year were done by Bush supporters! Oh well, I'll use my liberal tolerance and continue to enjoy the music. On the bright side, Allison Moorer is a Democrat - I thought she had to be after she married Steve Earle.

Anyone remotely interested in country music and politics should own it. Goes through the history of country music (its political roots, how it has reacted in times of war, how it reacted to changes in culture,) and has tons of quotes from country personalities. Chris Willman is also a likable and witty host.

but had something else that causes tremors, acronym, I believe, ET - but I even though I learned what it was called, I can't remember what it is.
Also, I learned not to sell my penis to Nigerian's who are helping to hide money from ousted monarchs.

9. I learned the French alphabet and some vocabulary, trading French and |
|
Spanish with my daughter (I speak some Spanish, she speaks some French) when the power went out the other night and we couldn't watch the rest of Project Runway. We sat around and traded vocab and spoke simple sentences to each other to see how much we could figure out, and marveled over the similarities and just enjoyed each other's company and had fun!

And I learned a whole bunch about medical terminology. Finally, I learned that I can make a break with the past and not shrivel up and die. All in all, a good week.
