ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!?!?!
And not this "World Cup Football" crap! (Yes, I watched the World Cup and had a blast so shut up.)

Anyway, with July almost over it's time to find out who everybody's favorite college team is.

Me? I'll be pulling for the Virginia Tech goddam Hokies!

<><>

Even though they're light at QB it should still be a pretty good season.

16. HA!

BOOMER!!!!

Texas will be a challenge, as always. Oregon might be.

If we lose to anyone else, we deserve to be ridiculed heavily.

OU lost to TCU last year, and I celebrated much, after that particular victory, as well as the ucla beating of OU...last year, was great for me...:) But to me, the big 12 is open for anybody this year...I just hope its not OU.

40. This is not last year ...

Realistically, though, a lot will depend on whether Bomar has been able to pull his head out of his ass.

;)

Actually, to be fair, I think OU will win a lot of games this year. And while I'm not saying OU will lose this particular game, I will say that, if you want to get a head start, your best bet is to scope out caps for the Oregon Ducks--it's an early game, on the road, with an offensive line that is young and will still be getting used to playing together. I still think the Sooners should win that game, but it should be a good one :)

On edit: somehow, as I read the OP, I thought I might run into you here :hi:;)

30. I think it all depends on him
He could have a breakout year, or he could be a disapointment. But he did improve a great deal in the second half of last year. He did pretty well in the last four or five games, particularly compared to, say, the UCLA game when he fumbled something like seven times :wow:

47. here you go:
Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 07:04 AM by Ava
Early football teams were simply know as the Varsity or the Crimson White after the school colors. The nickname Thin Red Line was used by sports writers until 1906. The nickname Crimson Tide was penned by Hugh Roberts, of the Birmingham Age-Herald, after the 1907 Alabama-Auburn game. In a game that was played in a sea of red mud, Alabama played heavily favored Auburn to a 6-6 tie. After the game, Roberts dubbed Alabama the Crimson Tide. Zipp Newman, of the Birmingham News, probably popularized the name more than anyone else.

32. I keep hoping for Mike Stoops to turn that corner
Geez, I remember his first year when every single loss seemed like a heartbreaking loss. I'm an OU fan, but I started following Arizona when he became the coach there.

I had a pay-per-view package his first year that let me see a lot of the AZ games, and it seems like he lost a lot of games that he should have won, they just slipped away in the weirdest ways late in the game. Stupid turnovers, stupid penalties, getting kicks blocked, things like that. Oh well. Here's hoping for this year :toast:

I hope this year that Stoops merits that kind of adulation again :) 8 years ago a season like last year might have been fine, but that won't cut it anymore.

I love this time of year, though--this will be my second football season away from Norman, and I'll sure miss it on gameday (won't miss the heat, though ;))

My favorite pictures of the game (which I couldn't find offhand) are the overhead view of the stadium, with the Oklahoma half filled with red and the Texas half almost entirely empty :) That was such an incredible game.
