I've noticed that fundamentalist ministers talk more about anal sex than anybody else on the planet. I don't really buy into the idea that every homophobic asshole is closeted or in denial, but I think a fair number of them are and they embrace these strict anti-sex religions to convince themselves and others of thier straightness.

I once got them all up in arms, because they were railing against sodomy, so I chimed in with "well most sexually active adults are guilty of sodomy." They did not like that; although, one did look up sodomy in the dictionary to see if I was right. One guy made a very lengthy graphic post about fisting and warned me not to read it if I was eating. I was so tempted to reply back saying that I was munching on rice chips and hummus while reading it.

5. Yes, many of them seem totally obsessed.

They think and talk about sex about 14 thousand times more than I do. It reminds me of the kids I knew in HS whose parents were really strict. When they got to college and finally found some freedom, they screwed everything in sight and went crazy with the drugs and alcohol. Me? Eh. My parents let me do what I wanted so long as I was getting good grades in HS, so I didn't feel the need to be nuts later.

The fundies who are all obsessive about sex are the same way. It's forbidden to them, so naturally that's what they think about and obsess about and are crazy about. I think it's the same reason why you always hear about fundie ministers with child porn and animal porn and other really negative sexual material - repression leads to abnormal behavior. If they would just leave themselves and others alone about the whole topic, it's likely that they would stop thinking so much about it and just be normal people. It's a weird irony: they don't want to think about sex, so they try to force themselves not to think about sex, which makes them think about sex more, which makes them not want to think about sex more, repeat ad nauseum and add "think about the sex other people are having" and you get fundie America. :crazy: It's a wonder any of them have time to work or feed themselves with all of the work they have to do every day trying not to think about sex.

Reminds me of what a college prof of mine said: "When you try to repress something about yourself, it ends up leaking out your fingertips." And god knows, these folks are some of the most repressive people around. No wonder they're so obsessed with sex and porn and whatnot.

Yeah, it's a tragedy when whole regions of people project their inabilities/ways of dealing with something onto others and then start blaming/wanting to control them instead of doing the work to come to terms with what they're projecting.

Any parent who pays attention, even new ones, knows that kids will do what you won't let them and that they only set up the situation to pave the way for kids to react in a linear way which they'll do in order to carve out their own space/sense of self. It's all a control issue mixed with ignorance and rigidity.

So sad when people don't realize there are an infinity of choices.
