1. Hey! You left off Benicio Del Toro in _Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas_
Wow. Just... what were you thinking, man?

2. Well, I hate to admit it, but
I never liked Hunter S. Thompson, so I didn't see FLILV. I almost put Benicio anyway since he's one of my favorite actors, but how could I bump Robert Englund as Freddie Krueger? I couldn't, that's how!

12. Two things
Drugs have done wicked bad things to my family and other loved ones, so I don't enjoy reading about them, even humorously, even as a kid. Never liked Cheech and Chong, either. Second, I didn't like his writing style when I was younger. Seemed pretentious and shallow. I've changed my opinion of that a bit as I've gotten older, but never enough to really want to read him. I still don't like the way he wrote, but I can see his talent more now, I guess.

Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 01:24 AM by SlavesandBulldozers
he was the best writer I've ever read. I'm not the best read person by any means, but Hunter S had a gift. I miss that bastard.

22. Was one of those where he talked about killing the cougar that jumped in
his car? It was one posted on the ESPN web page, and turned me off to him, again. I never read the others. Maybe I just got a bad one. But it was the same style I remembered, and didn't like.

23. If it was on ESPN, then it'd be a "Hey Rube" article...
Edited on Sat Jul-22-06 01:49 AM by haruka3_2000
although, I don't remember that story at all and I've read most of his stuff. He did write a lot of good stuff against the Bush administration, so that should count for something.

As an aside, I wished I saved the picture from when I was on ESPN.com destroyed a TO jersey at Giants Stadium.

24. I don't dislike Thompson, really
I just don't like him. I can respect who he was and the influence he had on society, and as I mentioned somewhere above, I've grown to understand his writing skills, but he just writes a way that I don't like. Seems pretentious, or superficial, or something, to me. It's a style I've never liked in other writers, either, whether they do it well or poorly.

As for the TO jersey... TO cracks me up! I'm a Cowboys' fan, and I died laughing when he planted the ball on the star back when. He's like a pro wrestler, he's just supposed to be the guy that makes everyone mad. Now he's on my team. Funny thing is, when I saw him plant that ball on the star, I predicted he'd be a Cowboy one day--he just had that Cowboy cockiness. Although, watching his jersey get shredded by a chupacabra would amuse me, too!

25. Oh man, we did so many things to that jersey.
The only reason we didn't burn it was because one of the tailgaters had a friend who was a Eagles fan, so he gave it to his friend, defamed and framed. The guy that hosts the tailgates also has VIP parking, so we're right next to the gate that all the players drive through.

The ultimate highlight was during halftime I went out to the spiral to smoke a cigarette. My lighter ran out, so I went up to a guy (wearing no team apparel) and asked him for a light. He responded with, "um...weren't you the one throwing an Eagles jersey under an Eagles fan bus? Yeah, I was on that bus." I'm sure a guy would have gotten his ass kicked, but I just said, "well, yeah, but I'm cute" and he lent me his lighter.

DiCaprio was BRILLIANT.

I had never seen/heard of him before I saw that flick, and I seriously thought he was mentally challenged...

10. You know, I always liked him before that role, but
I never would have believed he could pull off that perfect a performance. It wasn't just that he nailed the mannerisms and character perfectly, it was also the emotional subtlety he generated. The moments where you could just barely read the self-loathing on his face, could just barely tell that he hated what he had become but knew he had no real alternative in life, you could even catch glimpses that hinted that he knew he had been great once, and despite his suffering, was still proud of what he had been. You could read his thoughts. It was truly one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.

DiCapprio's performance was brilliant, too. But Landau was just perfect.

27. I agree--Ed Wood is one of my favorite movies.
There's not a bad performance in the bunch, and for a movie that's about nothing BUT bad performances, that's saying something.

Martin Landau's performance was nothing but genius--he IS Legosi. He absolutely nailed it.

19. It was a really sweet, charming movie. One of my favorite Depp films
I thought about Faye Dunaway, too. Both were very good, but that film was mostly Depp's performance. Well, and the script. The seduction scene in the restaurant that faded into the musical scream was... Well, I should be getting to sleep now, not thinking of such things...
