Whom I have just had the privilege of meeting. She rocks! :yourock:



This is the first drawing I have done where I am satisfied with the hair, with the possible exception of Dangerously Amused. I find hair is so hard to draw convincingly. I have found something when drawing these sketches, it is quite strange. I get so caught up in the detail, focussing on each little area of light and shade, that in isolation it all makes no sense. It's just a collection of meaningless shapes. The same thing happened when I was drawing jane_pippin. Then when I take a break, step back and take in what I have just done, it all comes together and makes sense. It is quite remarkable how all the details coalesce to make a coherent picture, even though at the time of rendering I cannot see the wood for the trees, as it were.

What kind of materials (pencils, paper, etc...) are you using?

I just used a soft pencil (4B grade - you should have seen how short it was when I was done, lol) on regular printer paper.

well you're DAMN good!... anyway. Those drawings I did are just 2b, 4b and 8b pencils on a regular sketch pad. The paper is a little rough, so it can look rather grainy. This past spring I took this class with this man named Sergio Sanchez he taught me some really good techniques that I didn't get back in my art school days. :eyes: Next term I'm taking a painting class with one of his classmates/students, I'll post more stuff as I go along. :-)

u4ic is a beautiful subject to be sure, and your rendering of her is simply breathtaking! I agree that it is your best work yet, and I must say that your skill grows in leaps and bounds from one drawing to the next. Honestly, you are most impressive... my undergrad was in fine arts, and even though my classmates and I had the benefit of professional instructors and "full time jobs" of honing our rendering skills every day, you all on your own are developing much more quickly than we did. Fabulous work, billy...I can't wait to see where your talents take you! And yes, the hair... ooh la la! The hair is perfect.
