You tube is cracking down
I was going to post a Natalie Portman video I just watched yesterday (natalie portman raps) to funny
http://video.nbc.com/player.html?dlid=21927
I checked it today and it was gone
"This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner NBC because its content was used without permission"
so get them while you can..
It's only a matter of time before all the cool stuff is gone

1. Man, corporation's animosities toward p2p is such unfounded BULLSHIT.
I'm noticing at least 13 videos in my collection that are "in the black" (i.e., can no longer link to them).

I can name at least 25 bands in my CD collection that I was turned on to because of p2p. These are bands that now receive my money through concerts, merch and CDs, the most prominent of them being Mastodon, who's gaining larger audiences every year.

It's yet another great idea that's going to be killed for unfounded reasons. Let's just close down all the libraries too. Music video On Demand is something that should have flourished long ago and is slowly making conventional video channels who no longer play videos obsolete. It's unfortunate that a start-up is going to have to be sacrificed in order for this to happen. Where the hell else am I going to see underground metal videos? Headbangers Ball (yeah, think again on that one)? If YouTube were a subscription video-on-demand channel, we wouldn't have this problem, or would we?

3. I wish I'd read your post before replying
you make so many great points I could have just said "yeah, what he said."

So true about the libraries. This is all being done by a bunch of corporate sharks. You are so right about 'a start-up being sacrificed'. Man these SOB's are so damn greedy.

Do you think that youtube will go subscription? I bet they could just charge $10.00 a month and they would be fine as much traffic as they get.

4. Even if they were subscription, is it going to matter?
I just think that once that happens, it will be mainstreamed up and ruined and you'll only see what the corporations allow, as they'll only push the artists they force on you. Variety will be limited to THEIR vision, not the users. That will mean no more 80s videos you haven't seen in decades, no more underground videos of any genre, no unsigned acts, no more live performances on TV shows or concerts. All you'll get are people's stupid home videos of drunk kids and the same rappity Scott Storch/Matrix/Diddy-produced ClearChannel-friendly bullshit you see on MTV anyway.

2. yes, I saw one on there yesterday that said
"Removed by request of the copyright owner THE RIAA because content used without permisson"

That was for an Eminem song. Youtube isn't cracking down, so to speak, because without the video they'll have no traffic; but they have to remove the videos if the copyright owner asks them too. It's going to be a constant cycle, I think, someone will remove them and someone else will upload one.

It kind of sucks to me, because I never paid anything but a cable bill for MTV. Now I have a cable bill for my computer. So I'm essentially paying no more or less to watch videos than I did back then, I just get to watch the ones I want instead of all the stupid lame ones.

7. If it's on NBC's website...
...why would you want to repost it on youtube?

One of the reasons NBC and others are cracking down on this type of thing is multiple copies with inferior quality. NBC offers it online, so they obviously want people to see it.

And besides, this (and Lazy Sunday) has been posted about as many times as that brazillion joke.
