1. There is little that is worth being nostalgic for about the 70s |
|
Ew. Ugly clothes, shitty hairstyles, ugly cars, ugly music (not all, but the pop stuff sure was ugly), sideburns - pleeeeeease, shitty furniture, shitty carpeting, ugly homes, ugly foods, ugly TV shows, ugly microphones...
the 70s were the shitties, ugly decade in human history; and the 80s are right behind it.

2. I'll agree with you on the clothes, absolutely |

But not the music. People have this wierd tendency to equate the 70's with disco - some of the best rock n' roll ever made came out of the 70's.
There's plenty about the 70's that I don't miss (although I'd love to be between the ages of 10 and 20 which I was in that decade) but not the music. I haven't heard anything since to compare with it.

3. The music is a tough one - you're right, some great music as well. |
|
Zeppelin, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grateful dead, Genesis, Yes, Allman Brothers, and so on... lots of phenomenal music with long guitar solos and jams and bluesy perfection that, sadly, mostly disappeared with the 80s.
But the pop music of the 70s was just awful. Granted, pop music in all decades is shit; but there was something especially ugly about the pop of the 70s (and into the early 80s).
And those variety shows. Augh!

The music from 1970-1975 might be the best era in rock, ever. Way too many examples to cite, which is the point.

4. Well, I don't know about that |

Personally, I graduated from college in the '70's, got married, had two babies. Good times.
The 70's were fun. Silly. Disco... fondue... WonderWoman.. Hulk..
Good times. I was in my 20's. REAL good times.

I had the same hairstyle as the guy in the video, but I made it look good. Graduated HS in 73, college in 77, married in 78-loved every minute of the seventies.

Some good stuff, lots of crap.
I was in my 'teens back then, I hated (and still do) the Steve Miller Band, loved Abba, and some disco.
Wore corduroy pants that went "shoop shoop" when I walked, Earth shoes, and short hair. (Not a crew cut though.)
You believe next year it'll be 30 years since Star Wars first came out?
And who can forget 30 years ago especially in the spring and summer, the "Bicentenial" and all the hucksterism.

10. I went into the Anthony's store to buy some suspenders. |

They didn't have any, but I took a shine to the cute little sales girl. Asked her out-went to Star Wars on our first date. Still have the girl, still love me some Star Wars.

I remember the 70s, got out of the army in late Oct 69. I had not seen thoes early music videos, I didn't own a TV until the mid-80s, most of the time I wish I still didn't. As had been mentioned, there was some good music in the early 70s - my musical tastes are stuck in the 60's and early 70s - never was a disco kind of guy.

The Summer of '74 was the best. summer. EVarrrr.
It was my "American Graffiti."
And, yeah — the rock 'n' roll was some of the best ever played. I would remind folks that "heavy metal" was inVENted in the late '60s – early '70s. (We called it Hard Rock.)
But in August 1975, everything changed.
