Have you been creeped out at a funeral before?

Today my family and I went to my sister in law's father's funeral. He passed away suddenly, and there was a thread last week asking for suggestions for classic rock songs for my sis in law to play at the funeral. Well, anyway, the funeral starts out really well. When we walk in, they're playing Turn Turn Turn, then a couple more classic rock songs. While we're filing in, there is a slide show. Everything is moving and beautiful up to this point. Very laid back. Well, apparently her dad's brother is a fundie of the weirdest sort. At one point, they sang two hymns. They weren't normal hymns. The uncle's wife played the accordion and they both sang. It just sounded like a weird Communist Russian ballad for the dead. I was just creeped out. Then the second song sounded like something from a carnival ride, like a carousel or something. While this just sounds like something off beat, it was really creepy. They were smiling from start to finish. It was just...weird.
Please help me relate. Have you ever just been creeped out at a funeral?

The only time I ever got creeped out at a funeral was at the funeral of my great-aunt last February. Her husband (my grandmother's brother) was military all the way, and his sons grew up to be arch-conservatives. In fact, the younger son turned Catholic because he thought the Lutherans were soft on abortion.

Anyway, as the oldest son was giving his eulogy, he said something like, "Today she is rejoicing in heaven, reunited with our father and her parents, and rejoicing that millions of Iraqis have been liberated from tyranny."

WHAAAAAAT?

The dear lady was senile for the last five years of her life. I doubt she had any opinion on Iraq one way or the other.

It seriously creeped me out that he would use his mother's funeral as a platform for irrelevant political posturing about an issue that she was probably competely unaware of.

4. Lydia, not in defense of crazy comments, but...

by way of explanation, I can relate. I was told that when people get to heaven, they suddenly "know all". Some sort of wave of universal understanding is supposed to wash over them or something. The lady's senility would be "healed" and she'd be happy about the "liberation" of Iraq.

As for the venue to start in about politics, this guy was way off the mark.
