Anyone else hate these Apple computer commercials? |
|
The ones with the slacker guy being the Mac and the guy in the suit being the PC.

Forgot his name.
Personally I find the Mac slacker dude to be kinda smug and pretensious in the commercial though.

smug and pretentious? That doesn't make any sense. You're just jealous of the young hip dude. It's all in your mind! :)

I wanted to think of myself as young and hip. I'm about the same age as the slacker dude.
And I hang out on DU!
So how can I NOT be hip?

I recognise the guy from the movie "Galaxyquest" - he's the guy who is a total geek for the show and thinks it is all real. Hilarious role in a hilarious movie, but it hardly makes me think he is 'hip'.

Because I know how to use it.
It was funny, however, to see Stewart pretend to force the line out of him on the Daily Show.

8. I hate commercials in general. We saw about six of them at |
|
Regal Cinema in Sherwood. I don't have a mute button when I go to a movie.
Never get to the movie theater too far in advance of the printed time. The printed time is about ten minutes BEFORE the feature begins. If you get there any earlier, you are subjected to previews (I don't mind them in general) AND commercials.
Movie scheduled for 2:10 PM.
Arrived at 1:50 PM -- got settled, etc. 2:00 PM the commercials began, 2:10 PM the previews began. Film started at 2:20 PM.
Here are the ones I remember: The National Guard and the Jimmy Fund (Public Service), Coca-cola, some type of Japanese car (couldn't care less) Honda? Toyota? Subaru? -- and a commercial for fiery Doritos (I don't eat Doritos, fiery or not) poisoned with habaneros or jalapenos. I forgot the rest.
The movie, "The Devil Wears Prada" was pretty entertaining!

9. Doritos lied to me with their "Fiery Habenero" flavor. |
|
They are not "fiery." When I read "fiery," I personally want to burn off some taste buds permanently. Not like, "hmm...maybe if I eat 3 servings, it'll start to feel spicy." Overall, they were almost as disappointing as the Olive Garden.

Every time I drive by the one in Beaverton, Oregon, I think of all of you!
Maybe I should NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN in honor of the DUers who dislike their menu!

We were heading to Canada the week that it screened for reviewers.
I figure I don't have to post a review if I don't see it at the scheduled screening.
But the film was charming and I've been reading about Meryl Streep on the Internet Movie Database.
Remember her in: Kramer vs. Kramer, Silkwood, Sophie's Choice, The Manchurian Candidate, Angels in America.
She was born in 1949, so she's about 10 years younger than me.
She's the best -- although I must admit that Helen Mirren and Judy Dench from "across the pond" are also stellar actresses in my opinion.
Stanley Tucci was also wonderful in his role. The movie had good dialog, excellent pacing, the soundtrack was amazing -- just delightful!
B+ or a full A on Ellen's Entertainment Report Card.
Next preview is Monday night -- "SCOOP" which is Woody Allen's new movie, opening on Friday, July 28, 2006.
Good night and good luck!

If the object was to bring more people over to using Mac, I think they failed.
If the object was to have coolster Mac users pat themselves on the back, then they hit one out of the park.

And I'm not bashing Mac. I've never even used one. I'm sure they're quite swell.
I could do without the constant puffery of their more vocal advocates however.
When Mac users push their machines I get the same creepy feeling I get when scientologists try to convert me.

26. Or how the mac guy acts as if he can interface with EVERYTHING... |
|
Which is a lie; I was alughing over my Sony digital camera and high-end Epson printed aimed at graphic-artist folks and the whining from the Mac side had me in stitches.
Sorry to be cynical, but Macs are not the best. And now that they're essentially an Intel PC running a modified FreeBSD, why spend twice the money? Apple used to be cool, but they stagnated and chopped off the parts of their platform that were deemed original/inventive/special.
The commercials are chock full of hubris with their misleading.
Yes, they are easier to plug into a wall socket. Big deal. May as well sell a car that drives itself so you don't have to learn how to drive.
