You're The Boss

(Elvis Duet with Ann-Margaret)
(Words & music by Leiber - Stoller)

When it comes twistin' I just got to keep insistin'
Oh baby .... you sure do swing

When it comes twistin' I just got to keep insistin'
Oh daddy hey, you are the king

Baby you got me beat up and down inside out and across
Oh yeah!

But in the middle of the night when the moon is shining bright
Ah! You're the boss

Hey talkin about a dancin' and a down on romancin'
Big daddy Hey! You make the scene

Hey talkin' 'bout dancin' and down on romancin'
Oh now baby, you are the queen

Oh when push comes to shove, when it comes down to love
You're a hoss!

Oh yeah! but in the middle of the night when the moon is shining bright
Baby, you're the boss!

You're the best of everything
You're a peach, you're a plum
You're a diamond, you're a pearl
You're the best of everything
Ahh daddy you're my man
Baby you're my girl

Now when it comes to knowin' which way the wind is blowin'
Now baby, you sure are wise

Yeah! When it comes to knowin' which way the wind is blowin'
Oh daddy, you take the prize

Baby you're a genius when it comes to cooking up some chili sauce
Oh yeah!

Oh but in the middle of the night when the moon is shining bright
Ahh, you're the boss

You're the boss
You're the boss
You're the boss

But in the middle of the night when the moon is shining bright
Ahh, you're the boss
You're the boss
You're the boss
Baby You're the boss
Tell me 'bout it baby

6. I'm right behind you...
(tend to do that...hope I didn't startle you)

Hi :hi:

This song was recorded for the Viva Las Vegas soundtrack but never used. It was only rumored to exist until Elvis' label finally released it in the '90s, though bootleggers came out with a very rough-sounding recording of it (complete with studio chat and count-in) from a scratched up studio acetate a few years before (actually, I was one of the collectors who helped pretty much prove that the song existed even before that) and I payed an inflated price for a bootleg LP that included that and a few other songs from a rehearsal jam that wouldn't see official light of day until a decade later. The lyrics of this song are pretty racy for a 1963 pop song, really, with a fair bit of double entendre present. A few years ago I was in a supermarket or drugstore, or somewhere, and I heard a cover of this by someone.

11. Yep....
I haven't heard it since, but I remember liking it at the time, just thinking it was kind of cool that such an obscurity (if any of Elvis' songs, even if long unreleased, can really be considered truly obscure) got covered. Seem to recall it was kind of jazzy, in the voices if nowhere else.

7. I must be gay, too,
because Ann Margret does the trick for me, and not just in her '60s and '70s incarnations...she's a star who, like Sophia Loren and Tina Turner (among others) remains incredibly alluring, naturally, with advancing years....even to those of us decades younger.

14. All right...I'm getting flustered now...
one of us is not gay.

And I'm beginning to think it might be you. :P

I mean -- sheesh -- next you'll be competing for fair Salma's affections! :o

Aaahhhhh...Salma...

17. Just tell 'em that they can have your toaster
when they pry it from your cold, dead hands. Or hopefully well before that stage, actually...I'd go for "chapped, bruised hands" and just leave it at that.

10. Apparently Jerry Falwell doesn't like happy people
Confuses me, too. I'm beginning to suspect that he's talking to a different God than most other people talk to.
