As a fomer Oregonian, I take my coffee pretty seriously.
I won't call myself a connaiseur, but every now and then, a coffee hits your pallete just the right way: it bursts & spreads, finishing smoothly and sweetly. That same experience is sought after by lovers of really good chocolate, cheeses, beer and wine. When it happens, the difference between good (which there's plenty of) and great is apparent. With coffee, it's happened a handful of times - Ethopian Harrar at Village Coffee Roasters, Stumptown House Blend on a French Press, Allen Bros. Latte, Mardi Gras Blend from La Tassa Rosa. I've even tried to
roast my own, but haven't come close to duplicating those flavors.
Now I live in coffee-impared Ohio, and have all but given up on it. The other day, on a whim (and being broke) I bought Kroger Brand Spotlight French Roast for $2.50 for a 12-oz bag. W-O-W. What a find! Every bit as good as the 9-buck-a-pound coffee I mentioned before.
I highly recommend trying it.
No, I don't work for Kroger, nor is my last name Kroger.
