1. I'm obviously biased toward the Big E and the Beatles, but I suggest
This Is Spinal Tap. Elvis and Beatles movies are genres unto themselves, anyway (and landmark films like Woodstock aren't really about musicians), and Tap rules supreme beyind their purview.

Hello, Cleveland!!

13. I would have to agree the Blues Brothers are my 1st fave and...
Amadeus is my 2nd idea of the best movie about musicians.

10. Too many good ones to choose just one! Ack!
I LOVE Amadeus & A Hard Day's Night. Amadeus changed my life.
Spinal Tap is, well, Spinal Tap. You gotta love it.
The Last Waltz is definitive.
Decline of Western Civilization is an important historical document IMO (and I have been an X 25 for 25 years or so now).

Good poll.

11. Dig!
Two bands, both extremely talented. In this corner are The Dandy Warhols, who never buy into being "rock stars." In the other, Brian Jonestown Massacre, who become the perfect example of hubris-fueled self-destruction.

21. Two of my favorites, head to head. Amadeus, Almost Famous. Damn
Amadeus is a better movie. Almost Famous spoke to my heart, and the lead character was me as a teenager... Still, Amadeus. Just too damn good a film. None of the others on that list are close in quality, though they are each great in their own way.

Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 01:37 PM by CanuckAmok
"Hard Core Logo"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116488/

This is a Canadian movie that managed to get distribution in the US solely on the strength of Quentin Tarantino's backing it as "one of the best movies ever shot".

Plus Joey Ramone is in it, so....yeah.

28. "Why do Fools Fall in Love, the Frankie Lyman Story".
That one is pretty horrifying. Really rough, very well done. Halle Berry plays the lead singer of the group "The Platters" (one of my favorites) and Vivica Fox and Lela Rochon play Lyman's other two wives (he was married to all three at the same time). There is also an actor who plays Little Richard. I think this film is really amazing, and deserved more acclaim than it got.

on the poll, I voted for Spinal Tap.

30. Stop Making Sense by Jonathan Demme.
"Mad Dogs and Englishmen" and "200 Motels" were excellent.

But the best is Laurie Anderson's "Home of the Brave."

Oh and should we mention "Ishtar"?

36. You put some great films on that list. Just some real fine movies.
I liked many aspects of THE ROSE with Bette Midler.

AMADEUS is a personal favorite, though. Salieri as the Patron Saint of Mediocrities.

Pure genius writing by Peter Shaffer.

Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones deserve a mention for "Coal Miner's Daughter"

and I think

Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon also need to be mentioned for "Walk The Line"

42. Why, pray tell
is this film not even on the ballot?

And then there's "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains," a very raw docudrama from around 1980 about life on the road with touring punks. It was never even released, but somehow popped up a few times on the old USA Night Flight.

I managed to find a bootlegged DVD on eBay. :bounce:
