I love a good thunderstorm |
|
Just heard a major crack of thunder here in L.A. Hoping more comes of it... after the 101 degrees of yesterday, and it not being much better today, the cathartic effect of a good storm would be welcome.
Who else appreciates the tympani sounds of a good thunderstorm? :D

1. Me, too. ZW. We've had a couple of real downpours here |

the last couple of days and I revel in it. I love the flash and the sound of the thunder, (especially if not accompanied by a bad weather warning)

I was impatient for them to end because I liked playing outside afterwards... frogs were hopping everywhere for me to catch, and the air just had that crisp clean freshness to it... It's one those things you learn to appreciate with age I guess. :hi:

And most of the gentleman friends I've had over the years have learned to love them too. They put me in a romantic mood. :7

I admit, I love the crazy, window-rattling storms that we just don't ever get here.
You know how it is--the weather here is just :boring:

no tornado threat with it. THOSE scare me. But a good downpour with lots of flashing and thunder...just love it.

7. When I was younger, back in the seventies |

I worked 3-11, after my shift if there was a storm brewing, I'd drive out into the Missouri River bottoms with a six pack of beer and a bag of smoke. I'd sit there in the dark, crank up the stereo, load my bowl and watch nature's pyrotechnics, flash and rumble, it was great.

It may sound strange but I also really enjoy tropical storms and even Category 1 hurricanes. They are small enough not to be too dangerous but big enough to go on for hours and hours. I really enjoy a good storm.

22. Ask me about Katrina when it went over my boat as a Cat-1 |
|
in the Florida Keys and ripped off all the biminis and broke my dive platform. We don't normally stay on the boat even for a Cat-1, but Katrina wasn't supposed to come through the Keys, so long about midnight it woke us up with the most ungodly screeching and howling and banging, and that lasted ALL NIGHT! I can enjoy a good tropical storm when I'm in a house, but it just isn't fun at all on a boat! :)

23. wow, a hurricane on a boat! |
|
That had to of been an experience. That crosses the line between entertainment and fear.
I stayed on a sailboat during a tropical storm once. The constant worry about dragging anchor and worrying about other boats in the vicinity, plus having a 60+ foot metal pole in the air with lightning about, well, it wore me out. I slept like 12 hours afterward.
Glad you made it.

We had a few lightening strikes last night in OC.
I really hope we get a rain storm, the sun's out but the thunderheads are surrounding the area. It would help cool things off.
It's too hot and humid, right now.

We're in the South Bay... so we had a bit more.
It wasn't very big, but bigger than what you got up north in Hollyweird. Weather systems can be very localized around here.

20. love 'em....had some really GOOD ones here this week |
|
I was a little too tall Couldve used a few pounds Tight pants points hardly reknown She was a black-haired beauty with big dark eyes And points all her own sitting way up high Way up firm and high
Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy Out in the back seat of my 60 chevy Workin on mysteries without any clues Workin on our night moves Tryin to make some front page drive-in news Workin on our night moves In the summertime In the sweet summertime
We werent in love, oh no, far from it We werent searchin for some pie in the sky summit We were just young and restless and bored Livin by the sword And wed steal away every chance we could To the backroom, to the alley or the trusty woods I used her, she used me But neither one cared We were gettin our share Workin on our night moves Tryin to lose the awkward teenage blues Workin on our night moves And it was summertime
And oh the wonder We felt the lightning And we waited on the thunder Waited on the thunder
I awoke last night to the sound of thunder How far off I sat and wondered Started humming a song from 1962 Aint it funny how the night moves When you just dont seem to have as much to lose Strange how the night moves With autumn closing in
