Poll question: Car Alarms |
|
I need a break from all the world crises so I am posting a poll about one of my pet peeves; car alarms.
For one brief period we lived in an apartment downtown and I learned to hate car alarms with a passion. I recal more than one nightl listening to some interminable car alarm while fantasizing how I would like to rocket the vehicle into oblivion.
With that in mind I was wondering what you do or think when you hear a car alarm. I mean, are they really driving down crime and worth the bother?
Everyone I see with such cars seem to really enjoy the gizmos and the sense of security. Maybe someone out there has some stats.

a loud truck leaves the parking lot. That is the most annoying part of having an office with a window next to the parking lot.
There was one time when my car alarm went off at home and I actually went outside and some lady had backed into my car (no damage at all) and at that moment there was a police car because a police officer was coming home so he stopped. That lady was so worried that I was going to freak out and I just thought the whole situation was very odd. I don't use my car alarm anymore since it is so annoying to have to deal with the stupid thing but I love that story.

Completely ineffective. I've had two cars broken into, one car stolen, all with armed alarms. But there was also a '94 study that showed it.
When one wakes me up at night, I don't rush outside to see what's going on. 99.99% of the time it was caused by a large truck or loud Harley. Hey, if the owner's not going to run out to their car when it goes off, there's no reason to expect anyone else to.
