Before that one response, no responses for years.

That includes all the people I responded to.

Is online dating really this deserted?

2. Won't matter. They'd still have to converse with *me* at some point.
They've got to like me or there's no point.

3. I've tried online dating at various times over the past 15 years, and

I met exactly two men that I went out with more than once. The first, unfortunately, was applying to graduate schools (mid-life career change) and got accepted only out of state. The second (seven years later) proved to be too limited in his interests and emotional range and once I got to know him better, I realized that we had incompatible values.

My last (really last) attempt at online dating brought up

1) a hyperactive who couldn't track a conversaton
2) a handsome but nerdy type who responded to everything, and I do mean everything I said with, "IN-teresting!"
3) a man who seemed ideal on paper but who started out hostile, didn't say much, and suddenly blurted out, "Does it bother you that my daughter's a lesbian?" Since he had mentioned only that he had a daughter, nothing about her sexual orientation, I thought that was a pretty weird question.

I'll take my chances in the real world, thank you.

4. my ad was up a couple years with no responses
Be a hunter: browse constantly til you find an ad to respond to, someone that's right for you. I used the SpringStreet networks. It worked well for me.
