The drainage on my street sucks. *Dial up warning*
Fortunately I have off street parking (up hill)

Note the water is now forming a river in the park

At least one guy realizes his sports car won't make it across.

The park river is much larger now. Further up the street its at least twice as deep. Notice the white Taurus in the lower left? It's dead. Usually I see one or two cars die there every time it rains hard.

One final view of the park river.

Hopefully these pictures will convince city council that there is a drainage problem on my street.

1. Why do people think they can drive through water like that?
It's stupid and dangerous. I see it all the time here when it rains. Fortunately I have found a route home from work that rarely floods like that.

4. Oh yeah, I know where you are.
How long did it take to get that much water on the streets? That's amazing.

5. Ten minutes from the start of the rain.
It's amazing down the street. Water actually shoots up through the holes in the manholes in little fountains. The drainage system in this city was very poorly designed.

6. I lived on Congress on Munjoy for about 6 months.
Winter was tough with parking and snow. Doesn't help that there are hills everywhere and poor drainage.

9. I've read about the storm drains in Maine.
Apparently they have problems in Bangor too. :scared:

11. Nope. It's deering oaks in the photos!
For some reason city council does nothing to take care of our street. We always have to harass them to get any movement on issues. Oh well.

12. Deering Oaks did not flood like that 20 years ago.
That street used to get surface water after heavy rain but it would drain as soon as the storm stopped. That was always tolerated. Maybe the council is trying to pretend nothing has changed, but it has. I recall seeing it ooze over into the park only once or twice. Up at the other end, I know that King Middle is built on swampy land and has lawns like wet sponges after any heavy rain.

The area from Park Ave to the interstate was probably wetlands 150 years ago. I've seen historic maps (ca. 1880s) showing that Back Bay extended almost to the edge of the Oaks. Marginal Way was under water too -- in the 19th century the railroad tracks were almost at the water's edge.

I'd bet that something is screwed up in the storm drainage system.

8. WOW
I haven't seen that much water since I went to the lake.

Hope it drains for you pretty quickly.
