OK, I'm just a little freaked out.

Two months ago, I answered knocking
at my front door.
There were two women whose apperance I would describe
as church ladies. They asked for me by name (first and last).
When I identified my self, they wanted to know if I spoke French.
No, I don't.
They said my last name was French, and were trying to locate French-
speaking people.
I let them know our family came from Germnay, not France,
and I can only speak English. They thanked me and went on their way.


Two months later (yesterday), I answered a knock at my front
door, and there were two gentlenem looking for someone with my
name. Again, they wanted to know if I spoke French since my last name
was French. I again axplained that our family is Germanic in origin
and asked how they found me.

They said they located me from the phone book, where I am listed.

Another twist, my ex-wife, who still has my (our) last name
lives in the same apt. complex, and her residency predates
mine by three years. She has never had someone at her door,
trying to find someone with the same last name that speakes French.

I'm a little unsettled by this.

If so, it seems strange that they would ignore her & bother you. That would freak me out too.

I would never give a key to all my friends. I live alone so I don't bother getting dressed lots of days. I wouldn't want to get caught in the buff by anyone, no matter how good of friends we are. :rofl:

7. They were probably Jehovah's Witnesses.

Once my grandparents and I were visiting my uncle in New York, when an old man with an Italian accent asked if there was anyone in the house who spoke Italian...my grandfather learned Italian from his mother, who came over here prior to WWII, so he came to the door, thinking he would be helping the man out. Turns out the guy was a Jehovah's Witness looking for people who could ONLY speak Italian so he could preach to them in their own language. If they have this program for Italian-speaking people, I'm sure they have similar programs for those who speak other languages as well).

...and I have no idea why they haven't come by your wife's residence...maybe to them your first name sounds French as well.
