1. I like the one where the PC man
is afraid the Mac man will catch his virus.

Not to worry, says Mac man.

But---- Macs DO get occasional viruses, so I think we Mac people should
not feel we are immune to them.

So, even though I liked that commercial,
it's not completely accurate.

Good God, a commercial may have misleading information in it?!?
:sarcasm:

8. Mac viruses are rare
...largely because the motivation hasn't been there for hackers to create them, IMHO. It's much more rewarding--and easier--for hackers to go after Windows-based PCs because 1.) they're far more widespread, and 2.) trying to thwart Bill Gates is so much more rewarding than trying to thwart Steve Jobs.

Because the viruses are so rare, Apple has been able to combat them very quickly when they do arise.

9. And 3.)
Windows was slip-shod in its creation; it doesn't turn a blind eye to hackers. It welcomes them with open arms.

No platform is immune; but if an open source derivative is more solid than the monopolistic competition, there's a big problem afoot. (don't forget, OS X is FreeBSD)

2. They do suck
Watching that followed by the new Hummer commercial will make a person shut their TV's off.

3. I think they're pretty clever.
I hate overblown nonsense commercials about how a product will save my world and mae flowers grow and birds sing. The commercial sticks to the basics, uses cute personification, and actually makes a point about the product it advertises. It sells the steak, not the sizzle. That, if you'll pardon the pun, is rare.

6. I thought they were funny
but my husband said it was typical Apple smugness.

I don't think the commercials are aimed at men, though.;)

12. Thank you.
They're smug and quite frankly, flat-out false.

Further, am I the only one who finds it weird they'd undertake such a marketing campaign right after they design their hardware such that you can run Windows on a Mac? You don't see the same thing happening in reverse, so isn't that an indictment on their relative abilities, that you'd NEED Windows OS?

15. Microsoft LOVES It
The whole dual boot thing on a Mac? Mac users should just realize they're helping Microsoft more doing that than they are if they flat out buy a PC. Micosoft makes more money selling that direct software than selling it OEM to manufacturers, so a Mac users buying Windows XP to put on their Bootcamp partition is giving Microsoft more money than the guy buying the new Dell.

You're right though. Nearly every aspect of the Mac commericals is totally and utterly false, but that's nothing new. Apple has shown time and again theyr'e willing to just flat out lie about what they can do and what others can do. It's frustrating.

I also get irritated by the fact that 'PCs' are going up against 'Macs'. What does that mean? What's a PC? I can go build a pretty freaking fast PC for about 700 dollars now. Just go to a store, buy the parts, go home, and presto bango changeo, i'm installing my new OS within the hour. Mac's on the other hand....are we talking about the hardware or the operating system? They lump them together.

Meh. Each to their own.

16. My partner and I both hate those commercials.
We both look up from our respective mac computers and groan at the TV screen each time one comes on...
