I cannot believe Donny Osmond is a Democrat. |
|
And besides being a mock thread, this is actually true...

1. Where did you hear that? |
|
I remember him and his sister campaigning for Reagan.

2. Back on the talk show Donny and Marie |
|
He was going off about how great Clinton was, and how it was Clinton's presidency who made him join the Democratic party. He may have switched back (since he sounds like one of those "Clinton Republicans")
Marie, is of course, a Repub.

I think that's why the GOP still blames Clinton for everything. I'm surprised that I haven't heard that the current trouble between Israel and Hezbollah is all Bill Clinton's fault.
We truly had a "United" States under Clinton. They'll (GOP) never forgive him for that.

8. I know a ton of Repubs who voted for Clinon in 96 |
|
They voted for Bush I in 92...but were pleasantly surprised with Clinton...and wholeheartedly voted for him in 96. Many of them voted for Bush II expecting a continuation of the same policies...and voted against him in 04...

I was one of them. I had become a Reagan republican after I graduated high school and never really paid that much attention to politics after that. I don't think I even voted during "Bush/Dukakis '88" but I did vote both times for Clinton while still being a registered but non practicing republican. It wasn't until 2000 with the dirtiest campaign I ever saw in my lifetime that I changed parties officially. First, the filthy viciousness against John McCain in the primaries, then came the equally offensive and nasty race against Gore. Then the theft of an election and the death of our democracy.
What sane, self respecting person would still want to be affiliated with a party like that?

4. I saw an interview with Donny Osmond last night |
|
Admittedly I missed his heyday because I wasn't around in the 1970s but he struck me as a decent, down to earth, compassionate and firmly grounded guy. So I wouldn't be surprised if he were a Democrat

5. He's a cool guy, he just acquired the curse of popularity, and as always |
|
the backlash of that curse is extreme, unless you die young. We'd all hate James Dean and Buddy Holly now if they'd lived.

And for the record, mine was also a mock thread. I'm really not that concerned about Scott Baio. Here is the original thread. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x5408005

And I don't have any posters of him in my room either. I swear.
But I still have that old copy of Tiger Beat.

7. Well, at least Donny's OK in that respect. |
|
It justifies that minor crush I had on him around 1970. :P Now if we could just justify why I had my major crush on David Cassidy. He's such an asshole now...

16. Heh, heh. Me too. David Cassidy was my first crush (@ 5 years old) |
|
I thought Donny was cute, but for some reason, didn't have a huge crush on him. Nor did I have a crush on doe-eyed Sean Cassidy. But, Bob on Sesame Street did something for me, for some bizarre reason. Go figure.

15. MOST Mormons I have known are/have been Democrats |
|
Believe it or not.
Aside from their offbeat religious beliefs, Mormons are a very practical people. They KNOW which side of the bread is buttered. It is part of their religion and lifestyle that they HAVE to know. If a political leader tells them that up is down when it's clear that it's not, they DO recognize that and freely admit it. Don't let the continued presence of Orrin Hatch in the Senate make you think any different. (He is a master at playing off of LDS memes.)
I don't believe you can lump Mormons into the "fundie" category. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that Donny Osmond is a Dem.

17. I sat next to him on a plane a couple of years ago. |
|
We didn't talk politics, but he was very nice and good natured. I told him that as a 5th grader, I & the boys hated him, as all the girls in my class seemed to have a crush on him, but I forgave him. He laughed. He was also very patient with folks that came up and asked for autographs from him during the flight.
IMHO, He didn't seem to have a mean bone in his body.
