How many so-called "controversial" musical acts do you like? |
|
I have an issue with classic rock...I am a huge sucker for many acts that are liable to be branded "Muzak" or general "noise:"
Steely Dan Boston Journey Supertramp Steve Miller Band J. Geils Band Jimmy Buffett (I have had people chew me out for him, suprisingly) Genesis WITH Collins at the helm (I also like them with Collins just drumming, so don't totally go bonkers!) Phil Collins solo (Some, not all) The Eagles Don Henley solo Doobie Brothers WITH Michael McDonald (I do also like them very much before McDonald!) Foreigner
I'm just a walking disaster, I guess! Note that though I SAY I like those acts, I only actually have albums of Steely Dan, Phil Collins solo, and The Eagles. My mother has Boston, Jimmy Buffett, Genesis w/ Collins at lead, Don Henley solo, Doobie Bros w/ McDonald, and Foreigner CDs, to none of which I have listened.
I guess my one redeeming feature as far as classic rock is concerned is that I hate REO Speedwagon.

24. I absolutely cannot stand the Moody Blues!! |
|
I am sure that the guys in the band are great guys, but when I was a freshman in college my roommate listened ONLY to the freakin' Moody Blues!!! Every day...day after day...Ride My SeeSaw...Nights in White Satin...Tuesday Afternoon...I'm Just a Singer...AAAARRRGGGHHH!!
I hope that I never hear another Moody Blues' song as long as I live.

2. I'm an unrepentant Skynyrd fan |

And I dare anyone to attempt to explain to me why they weren't one of the greatest bands ever during their peak

Sends LynneSin into paroxysms. Their controversy revolves around the fact that many peoeple seem to think they aren't a very good band. But hey, I think they rock.

I do like REO Speedwagon's '70s stuff. The classic rock acts I loathe are Billy Joel and John Cougar Mellencamp.

I think the only REO Speedwagon I have heard is the "Keep On Loving You"-era stuff. Which I find terribly annoying. :D

23. His singing voice is better than Pye Hastings's |
|
:D
He drummed and sang with seminal psychedelic group Soft Machine through the first four albums, and then went on to play with Matching Mole, paralyzed himself from the waist down after a drunken fall and then produced a series of hit-and-miss solo albums.

I like at least something by everyone on your list, and several of them I like quite a bit. A few of my "controversial" favorites are Chicago, Hall and Oates, Wings, Styx, Bread, the Association, the Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, the Guess Who, ELO, Iron Butterfly, Uriah Heep, Stone Temple Pilots, and Soul Asylum.
* Oh yeah, and Reo Speedwagon aren't even all bad IMHO. "Ridin' the Storm Out" is actually pretty awesome, and even the notorious "Can't Fight this Feeling" is in that so cheesy it's strangely cool category (well, at least, it is to me. haha)

Yeah, I like them. They shred. And pop-punk stuff too. Yeah, that's right. In fact, I can't stand indie music simply because it pisses off indie rock fans so much. "Ecelctic" music too. Bjork. Vomit.
Tori Amos is a talentless hack! Pink Floyd is overhyped trash! Damn this feels good.

I love The Eagles, Genesis with Phil Collins, Jimmy Buffett, and much of Phil Collins's solo work. I like Steely Dan, and can tolerate some Journey and Foreigner.
I like quite a few that wouldn't be liked in at least some snob circles. But, I also like some indie. So I get the best of both worlds. :-)
My most controversial one would probably be Hootie And The Blowfish.

21. Hey, I like the BeeGees and ABBA, and I'm damn proud of it. |
|
Not that they are "classic rock" to me... Just part of my childhood.
I only dislike one on your list, but oddly I think that's the one that most music fans think of as talented. I'm a HUGH!!!! SERIES!!11 Jimmy Buffet fan, but some of that's a home town thing.
And Don Henley solo was brilliant. Ain't nothin' controversial about him, and if anyone tries to claim there is, just laugh at them. Hs "Boys of Summer," and the whole "End of the Innocence" albums were works of art and poetry.
