I finally got some shorts I don't hate- why didn't I check the men's
section to begin with?

The problem I was running into was that this year shorts for women come in two styles: capris (wrong for my body type) and dinky little underpants with zippers (really really really wrong for my body type.) I was muttering to myself about how it's not fair that men don't have to put up with this shit, when it occured to me to go see if I could find a pair of mens' shorts that fit. And I dound a pair that are comfortable, the right length and they even have :wow: pockets that actually fit stuff. Unfortunately I only found one pair, bringing my total shorts count to, well, one. Better than sweating in pants I guess.

1. LeftyMom, thanks for the great tip!
I'm having lots of trouble finding shorts that are the
right length and fit.

I'll try the men's dept!

:D

2. I was having the same problem
but I found some "bermuda" shorts at old navy - they come almost to the knee and you can roll them so they're mid-thigh. - btw - much different than the "bermuda" shorts of the '80's.

3. I buy mine at a sporting goods store
Like Academy or equivalent. Columbia has good walking and/or hiking shorts. Plenty of pockets and none of those itty-bitty things that seem to be in vogue. Or a place like LLBean or Cabelas.

I would post a link directly to the item but it was way too long.

It will shorten any long URL.

4. I buy my shorts in the men's section too...
My line of work requires me to do a lot of physical things and wearing long pants during pre-season practice is out of the question as well as having my ass hang out of the shorts (it seems there is no happy medium aside from the "Mom Jeans" type of shorts when it comes to women's shorts). I've found that men's cargo shorts suit me fine...I find that the extra side pockets are perfect for storing ACE bandages, gauze, bandaids, etc (which may not be important to most people, but I find it quite useful).

8. Why not just go with micro-shorts?
Hey - I'm a pervert - what can I say?

I think EVERY woman should wear them!

And for the record, I promise to wear nothing but a US Flag thong for my end of the bargian!

11. You're small like me, you could probably even try the boys' dept.
I have a couple pairs of boys cargo shorts. One pair I picked up from Abercrombie kids for $7. I've also used the boys dept for polo shirts and such.

12. Do you like skorts?
I've got two sources for them and they're comfortable, cheap and attractive.

Costco and New York and Company. They were all around $10 a pair and they've been almost constantly on my body since I bought them.

20. They're back.
And for active types, they're a blessing. (Try riding a bicycle in a short skirt sometime....)

Not that I wear women's clothing, but I'm curious what these are. :)

15. Skirt in the front, shorts in the back.
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 02:32 PM by Gormy Cuss
Or some other design that makes them appear to be a skirt but they're really just shorts.
There's usually a flap like an apron in the front to make it look like a skirt to the casual observer.

16. What is the point
of making shorts look like a skirt, but only from the front?

18. You're not a girl. I can't tell you that.
I think the point is that they look a bit dressier than shorts yet provide the same comfort level. In photos, they look like a skirt. Nicer for that album of Granny's 80th birthday garden party pix, for example. In most social situations, people are assessing you face to face. Some of us never thought much of the one panel variety and some designers have fashioned skorts with false panels front and back.

19. I don't know. I remember they were cool when I was in 5th grade.
There is no point. It's pretty much a way to point out those who can't dress themselves.

23. Sigh... typical.
No, the point is that it allows women to be both comfortable and professional. I'm not allowed to wear shorts into the office, though I'm allowed to wear skirts. (The men are allowed to wear a couple of specific types of shorts and utilikilts.) However, I don't drive to work - I bicycle. If I wear a skirt on a bike, I'm asking for trouble. If I wear a skort, I'm far safer and less likely to get a ticket for indecent exposure.

They're a garment that allows women to have a full range of motion without the modesty issues and cultural issues that skirts bring up. What's your problem with that, or do you just think women should be either forced to suffer in the heat or wear clothing that subjects them to dangerous situations?

22. Flashing the general public is bad form?
Sure, I'll flash people I like, but flashing the 3000 people who happen to be driving west on Arapahoe when I'm going east is not my idea of a good time.

For larger ladies, they also have the advantage of preventing some... delicate chafing.

21. The ones I have are skirt all the way round
But have a pair of shorts sewn into them. They actually do look like a skirt 360, but have the non-flashingness of a pair of shorts.

17. TOTALLY agree
I went shopping with my SO @ Old Navy, and we both bought men's cargo shorts. They fit him, they fit me better. Fuck those Daisy Duke short things-- I have curves and boy, I look BAD in anything at the thighs :scared:
