I just heard Ram Jam's "Black Betty" on the radio
Who plays that anymore?! :o

I remember when that song came out...my parents would always turn off the radio whenever it came on. I of course would listen endlessly to the radio under my blankets at night trying to catch it to see what was so very awful about it...I figured it must just be the most filthy thing ever. :D

Anyone remember songs from when you were a kid that were *verboten*?

16. if you were going to bring up moroder, you could have -at least-
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 10:33 PM by sundog
cited more clear examples of his pioneering techniques...

i mean, "chase" or even the full 15 minute version of "love to love you baby" at minimum

-minimum-

c'mon man

please

i bet you're one of those types when you overhear someone say "moroder" you quick shout out "bad girls!" :eyes:

i bet when someone says "devo" you shout out "whip it!"

or "echo & the bunnymen" you jump up & down "i know i know!lips like sugar!"

or someone says "os mutantes" you go "ando meio desligado!"

:eyes:

"i'm very familiar with the number one hits!" :eyes:

this is exactly why i stopped talking to you

That was a wee bit before my time...in fact, I heard that one regularly around the house. My parents probably didn't think I'd *get* that. (And to be fair they were probably right. :D)

35. i was in grammar school when that one came out and my mom....
...would also roll her eyes when it came on the radio (WCFL - the voice of labor) but i loved it so much i didn't care.

years later, my mom has finally succombed to the power of rock and roll. she digs clapton and even the stones. i guess she got pelted with so much loud rock when i was in grammar school and high school, she finally gave in.

she used to get grossed out when i would crank up the black sabbath and judas priest when i was in 5th grade. i think she finally realized she's not qualified to be an art critic. hell, nobody is qualified.

34. no
I mean, my parents got us the Beatle's Sergeant Pepper album when we were 10 when it first came out here. I don't think they paid any attention to lyrics, subtle or otherwise, that might have affected our tender ears. They were either somewhat naive, or more sophisticated than I realized.

The appeal of that song was tied into the fact that it was naughty and I shouldn't be listening to it.

39. "The Bitch is Back" by Elton John.
I used to run around the house singing it, heh. NOT allowed.

Also, for years and years, the "who the fuck are you?" line in "Who are you?" was NOT bleeped on the radio and we all used to sing along.
