What Airline Have You Flown More Miles On Than Any Other?
And which one is your favorite airline?

I've flown more miles on American Airlines... but my favorite is British Airways.

I know everyone calls them Northworst, but truthfully in all the years I've been flying them domestically and internationally (20+ years) I have never had an overly negative experience with them.

9. Most on British Airways, second is Southwest.
I really love them both for entirely opposite reasons; the service on BA is superb, and I like the fact that Southwest just cuts to the chase since they are a short haul carrier (plus they have roomier, nicer seats than America Worst; which no longer actually exists, I guess).

13. Continental, but Virgin Atlantic will always have my heart.
Their vegan meal was actually good (I got an Amy's frozen dinner). Free cocktails. And...

my personal tv broke mid-flight. Even though, I was passed out from the xanax and free cocktails, the flight attendant woke me up to inform me that "for the inconvience," I could pick something out of the in-flight catalog up to 50£, so I picked out a bottle of champagne. It worked out great, since I was going to be London over New Year's Eve.

Definitely, better than the coach service I've recieved anywhere else.

And they are the best for someone who needs special arrangements. I've flown on Delta a good deal, but only when I couldn't find anything else. Even on a non-stop from FL to CA, they managed to be THE WORST. :banghead:

21. Aer Lingus or as they're sometimes referred to in our household,
Air Fungus.

I do have to admit that their service has gotten better over the years. At least now we can fly directly into Dublin from ORD without stopping in Shannon and the flight attendants' attitudes seemed to be much more helpful now than they were in the past.

24. Lufthansa
A few Atlantic hops account for far more miles than all the domestic/European flights combined. Plus I have an uncle working for them, so I occasionally get very sweet deals. However, the economy class on long-distance flights is pure torture.

30. Lufthansa.
Most miles (though not most frequently, natch), and tied with Midwest Express for best service (though Midwest's service has gone downhill since they dropped the "Express" from their name and underwent cost-cutting changes post 9/11).

Unfortunately, long hauls on ANY carrier are painful for me -- 6'3" and can't afford first class.

My last 3 - 4 trips to Detroit have been on them, and while their planes suck, at least they can fly from Los Angeles non-stop.

Oh and for the record, I'll take Jetblue or Airtran over the big airlines any single day of the week.

34. Distance: Pan Am
Six trips between JFK and Berlin Tegel, and a couple from LaGuardia to Boston Logan, will do that to a guy.

Favorite airline: Alaska.

The worst Pan Am flight I ever took was the last one, which was a few months before they shut down. I'm sitting on this worn-out fucking airplane watching parts fall off it. Okay, we're talking trim pieces, but parts should NOT be falling off an airplane in flight, right? Anyway, up comes this real nice stewardess asking if she could bring me anything. "Yes. Could you bring me a 2404, please?" (Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Worksheet.) The really sick part wasn't that a passenger would ask for something like this, it's that the stewardess, who'd never been in the Army in her life, knew what a 2404 was--because Other Passengers On This Very Flight were asking for them too.

40. Air New Zealand
All those transPacific flights. I may have flown more often on some of the US airlines -- Delta, perhaps, though American was the main carrier to my frequent destinations in the Caribbean area -- but Air New Zealand would be the easy winner on mileage. great airline, too.

I despise all the major US flag carriers. They're terrible domestically and almost always way below the standards of other carriers on international routes. I flew back from the other side of the Pacific once on United, codesharing with Air New Zealand, and had one of the most miserable trips I've ever had (certainly for the length of the trip), and I've had some pretty heinous bouts of air travel before, whether on big jets or Buddy Holly puddlejumpers. I've been on airlines that are national carriers of Third World developing nations that boasted service and equipment that would shame any of the US commercial carriers.

I don't know if Horizon and Alaska are as good as they once were -- if not, I'd feel safe in saying that all pan-regional US airlines suck rather vigorously. Greedy f***ers, too. I was on my way back from an overseas station when I discovered the hard way, empty stomach and all, that US airlines no longer provide meals at all...I didn't order the overpriced sandwiches on the menu, either, both for the principle of it and because none of them sounded good, especially for the price. Traveled from the island I was on to the east coast of the US and on to Los Angeles without any food in me...and even years before they instituted that obnoxious policy I'd made a similar trip from an international destination on two 1/4-oz bags of pretzels (I don't even like pretzels) because of the suspiciously flexible schedule on which they determine breakfast, lunch, and dinner times on different flights. And then they go and lower the limit at which excess baggage charges are applied, just to add to the fun, especially to people who're engaged in the kind of work that was (and may yet be) my primary career. Let them all go under, for all I care.
