Dog Days
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 09:55 AM by tenshi816
I know many of you in the States are having exceptionally hot summers and we are in the UK too. We're sweltering, not helped by the fact that most people in Britain don't have air conditioning.

Walking on the moor we live next to is downright unpleasant right now because of the heat and humidity (not to mention the fact that a stray match could set the entire place alight), but on our most recent walk my dog Riley (the Wonder Dog) found a way to beat the heat:

I wish I could look that content.

Edited for clarity

1. Awwww, Riley is a cutie!
I feel sorry for you all. I have an old friend who lives near Manchester and she said it has been miserable. We are fighting our own heat wave down here in Southern California. We don't have A/C either as we usually have a nice ocean breeze that cools things down.

I have never seen a summer like this one here. It doesn't rain here in the summer. It is our dry season. I have been spraying my dogs down with a hose to cool them off, especially their bellies :-).

Try and stay cool and give Riley a hug from me.

2. A nice ocean breeze
would feel like heaven right about now. We have a bit of a breeze late afternoon and that's good, but nights are terrible because even though the temperature drops a little, the house is still too hot from the day to make much of a difference.

Also, my freedom and joy of living in the countryside has been curtailed recently due to a knife-wielding rapist who violently attacked a neighbour on the moor a couple of weeks ago, about 300 yards from my front door. The police still haven't caught the man (although they thoughtfully gave rape alarms to all of us female moor dwellers...), which means that however hot it is indoors, I and my friends are feeling skittish about going outdoors walking on the moor, even with dogs and alarms.

What a summer.

3. OMG!!
I hope they catch this person ASAP. That's horrible.

I am sitting uspstairs on the computer. It is 8:45 a.m. and it is already so hot. I have to walk the dogs yet.

No ocean breeze here for weeks. It's awful.
