I have the stomach flu
I need the money, but there is no way I can work today. I have what looks like the nasty stomach flu.

I guess one good thing is that last time I lost 10 pounds because it went on for a week. Kidding. I do not have 10 pounds to lose now. I would do anything to feel better. My immune system sucks. I catch anything and everything. :(

Yuck.

1. Will your doctor give you anything for it?
Phenergan works wonderfully, but only if your doc is okay with that.

5. my insurance means I would get into the doctor in 3 weeks
at the earliest. If I am feeling like this then, you have permission to shoot me.

I am going to try liquids. The drug store downstairs delivers so I can get provisions that way. I love living in the city.

6. Ginger ale works great.
Especially if you can get Northern Neck or another variety with real ginger. Ginger tea works well, too.

Good luck. Stomach bugs suck.

2. Did you know there is no such thing as...
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 10:40 AM by Hell Hath No Fury
the "stomach flu"? It seems if you have only vomiting with no poopage it is always food poisoning, always. Now, if you have vomiting and poopage it can be either food poisoning or the flu.

I never knew this myself. Found out about it on Discovery Heath. :)

You should be right as rain in around 24 hours. Feel better! :hi:

4. hmmmm.....
Interesting. It could be food poisoning, but the only thing I can think of what caused it was Orange Juice.

Last time I had food poisoning it lasted a week and of course, I was on vacation. Yuck, yuck, yuck. At least I am home now and I can just feel like crap without the guilt of wasting vacation time.

I am never eating again x(

7. I have had WICKED food poisoning...
so bad that I just wanted to die. :(

I once had the "spewing at both ends" variety and made the mistake of using the ol' Pepto to slow things down (so to speak) -- I ended up creating a nasty bacterial infection in my gut that was with me for a over a year. Messed me up something fierce. When I finally went to the doctor, he told me there was a reason our bodies revolted so strongly to food poisoning, and if you mess with the process it can have unintended consequences. :(

Hang in there!

9. I know
This is a lovely discussion, lol.

I am a big believer in the body doing what it needs to do. I don't like it, but hey, it will be over soon enough.

10. Be sure to keep your electrolytes up
by drinking something that is specifically for replenishing them.
(Would say "Gatorade" here, but I know there are better products out there for this...)

And, true enough re: no such thing as stomach flu. If you drank the local water while on vacation the last time you were ill like this, it could have been the change in water that affected your system.

Feel better quickly! :hi:

11. It's called norovirus (or Norwalk virus)
It's technically not the 'flu', which is respiratory.

Some people only get the nausea or puking, some get it from both ends.
