how much are you spending per month on gas now?
before * single handedly destroyed our economy I was spending $40.00 per month on gas. Now it's averaging $100.00 per month! and I hardly even commute much to work and I have a fuel efficient Honda Accord. On top of the sudden inflation jump on all goods & services the cost of living has exceeded beyond my capabilities.

drives, an average of 75-80 miles a day...at current prices between 2.59-2.79, we spend right around 40 bucks, every four days....

We usually fill up, sunday night=25-40 bucks...(depending on how much was left in tank, from previous thursday filling)

again thursday evening=40 bucks....a strong 40 bucks....

So, right around...hmm, 65-70 dollars a week

on edit: she drives an 04 purple dodge intrepid...we spend, probably between 180-220$ a month on gas...it sucks.

The same for my husband's car. So we are at approximately $300-$400 a month depending on usage.

are you in a mini van? I just filled up our gmc vandura this past friday, so we could go on a road trip up to kansas city, and that was 81plus, for just over 28 gallons of gas...it was a hit in the guts, big time.

3. I'm spending about $50.00/month
Of course I'm riding one of these for my fifty two mile round trip commute:

A Bajaj Chetak scooter, gets 100mpg, cruises at 55-60mph. I generally ride everyday when it's dry. Picked it up last fall when gas started to climb after Katrina hit, and have been on it, winter, spring and summer ever since.

Great bike, lots of fun to ride, I recommend it highly. For more information check out <http://www.bajajusa.com> for more information.

What kind of scooter do you have, a Bajaj or some other?

7. Nothing
I use public transportation, my bike, or I walk. Don't need a car as I live in the downtown area of my city and can usually get everywhere quite easily on foot. But the natural gas bills for my house are about 30% higher than this time last year even though I am very careful about conservation.

I don't own a car, but I rent occasionally for work. Last time, Enterprise offered to upgrade me to a hybrid for an extra $5/day. I took the bait and actually saved $15 in gas. Who ever thought that a rental upgrade would actually save my company money?! I'll do it again next time, heck, any time!

12. Public transportation sucks in this town
It's very spread out and unless you live within a half mile of the downtown area you pretty much have to walk over half a mile to a bus stop then wait close to an hour for a bus. I know perfectly well as I did it for almost two years.
I'm fortunate I'm working out of my home about 60% of the time. Dollar wise it's kept me close to about what I used to spend four years ago which is around $20 a week or $80 a month. $80 isn't a lot to some people but it's the equivalent of half the light bill in our house.

33. We end up having to use the van more
since the handicap busses on routes were cancelled everywhere but downtown. Nothing like sitting there in a mobility scooter and having the bus driver tell you he's not allowed to pick you up anymore. If I get to go anyplace at all, it's maybe once every 2 to 3 months but we have to have room for the scooter and the wheelchair (depending on which stores we're going to and what will fit where) and usually for the 3 dogs, too.

30. 29 cents a mile is really bad...
...if you get stuck in stop and go traffic for an hour or more. It happened to me recently. It took half an hour just to go about two miles. I should have parked the car and walked but was too much of a wuss to walk in the 95 deg. heat. Plus going to see a client all sweaty wouldn't be good either.

37. I'm also inthe 200/month range too.
A Ford Focus and a Ford Windstar. Focus wasn't bad but it does take $28 to full-tank it these days - and that lasts a week and a bit. The Ford Windstar has got a bigger tank so can be filled up once every other week in most cases. But that's still $60-$70 a fillup. Lately we've been moving as well. So therefore... we've had an expensive gas month.

That is of course we are talking petrol or gasoline. If it's actual gas then I guess I need to buy a cylinder of propane otherwise it's usually $0 a month - we're all electric here and it sucks when the power goes out.

Mark.

25. About $60
depending on how many times I go to the beach. $40 is about a full tank of gas (I drive a Sentra) and that is almost always good for at least 2 weeks because I take the subway to work. But I admit that I haven't cut down on burning gas for entertainment purposes, so if I trek all the way to Malibu more than once, I end up filling the tank mid-month.

29. Fortunately, no.
The mayor and City Council just infused another $700,000 into our Fresno Area Express to avoid having to have a rate increase. They WERE going to use that money to increase the frequency on a couple of routes and to add a couple more bus routes, but the monies had to be diverted because of increased fuel prices. Say what you will about Fresno but it has a pretty good bus system (better than most, anyway) AND a City Council that cares.

32. Nope
I think there's something in the MTA's contract that they can only increase the fares every two or three years or something like that.

I do think, however, that they added a temporary (for the summer) fuel surcharge for taxis, but they have just been talking about it. I rarely take a cab unless I'm hauling a bunch of stuff around, so I'm not really sure...

27. Well, now that I can't ride the bus
(I can't walk to/from the bus stops/home/work in 110 degree heat) I'm having to fill up my tank twice a month for a total of about $140.00 a month and that's WITH carpooling with my husband. I'll be glad when I can go back to riding the bus as a bus pass is only $35.00 a month for unlimited ridership AND I get my walking exercise. It looks like I won't be able to resume until September due to the weather.

54. Not having owned a car for ten years, I'm good at avoiding driving
although it's impossible to avoid it entirely in Minneapolis.

On average, a tank lasts me four to six weeks, so I DO get sticker shock each time I fill up.

Some of you who have really long commutes might find that moving closer to your job pays in the long run if the price of gas continues to go up.
