Poll question: Who else likes mayo on french fries?
When I was living in Germany, the Germans always looked at me funny whenever I ate my french fries with ketchup in public. Actually, "funny" is a bit of an understatement. They looked at me the same way you might look at someone who suddenly grew a third arm out of their back in the middle of a restaurant.

It didn't take long to figure out why: Germans prefer mayo with french fries, so I gave it a try, and you know? I love it. French fries with salt and pepper dipped into mayo taste wonderful.

Now of course, I eat french fries with mayo all the time, so of course my fellow Americans look at me the same way Germans used to, and to be honest, I really don't care.

2. I always put mayo on my french fries.
I don't like ketchup much, anyhow; it's too sweet. And it has to be real mayo, not that vile mucusoid spackle, Miracle Whip.

4. NONONONONONONO
The first time (and last) I did that the mayo was bad or I got a 24 hour bug or something, but I will never, EVER, eat ff's with mayo again.
But, mayo is still my favorite condiment for sammiches and burgers.

but it's pretty darn good.

Ranch Dressing or naked is my preference.

6. Mayo and ketchup
red-white is the way to eat it. And I remember when I was in the U.S. I got the same looks like you do right now. I always had to ask for extra Mayo and that I DON'T want it on the burger

10. Agreed!
Ketchup and mayo is definitely the way to go.

My friend from Belgium is visiting me for 6 weeks and she's shocked at how much ketchup Americans consume (though I have caught her dunking a fry or two into a pool of ketchup, so it's rubbing off).

That Dairy Queen puts on those Flame Burgers they sell.

15. Try this
Jalapeno Mayo:
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup minced onion
1/4 cup minced jalapeno peppers
1/4 cup minced red bell peppers
2 T. bottled lime juice, one lime if fresh squeezed
Salt and white pepper

Blend all the ingredients together in a bowl. Adjust seasoning with the salt and pepper. Refrigerate until needed.

I love it on burgers & subs. You might want to try it with the jalapeno veins removed the first time. Save them to add in at the end if you want more spice. Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't, depending on the heat of the peppers which can vary greatly.

I'm no good in the kitchen, but I think even I could handle that.

It's either that or stage a commando raid on Dairy Queen in the dark of night.

Of course, I prefer eating lean so my gut doesn't expand any more quickly than it has to.

OTOH, I should be eating more comfort food... because I sure as hell deserve some form of comforting...

Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 05:24 PM by Kellanved
I understand that reaction with blutwurst, saumagen, presskopf, handkäs, andouillette, haggis, pig feet & knuckles and a few other things, but why the reaction to mayo on fries? I've seen mayo on lots of things very similar to fries stateside.

16. Yes!
I had fries with mayo and a big bowl of steamed mussels in Belgium a few years ago. Moules et frites is practically the national dish there and les frites are always served with mayo. It's started to become more popular here (Canada) although I still get odd looks from time when asking for mayo for my fries.

35. Mayonnaise makes me throw up.
The few times I have tasted it, once when I was trying it for the first time and a couple more times by accident, I threw up every single time. It's one of the most repulsive things I've ever tasted.

So no Mayo on the fries for me! Ketchup all the way! :patriot:
