VERIZON CELL PHONE USERS - the "insurance" policy. |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 06:03 PM by HypnoToad
If you lose your phone or it's stolen, you must have a police report compiled to take advantage of the cool $50 fee you have to pay in order to get the replacement phone... (on top of the usual $5/mo charge, of course...)
Don't worry, Verizon marks your phone as being lost - so if someone else tries to activate it, they get in trouble by Verizon; the line disconnected and the person told to go to the nearest Verizon outlet?
What bothers me is, knowing the phone is on a blacklist, why the police report rigmarole at all??? Especially as one has to talk to a person who can't speak or hear English very well? Anyone dumb enough to use a phone that you know damn well will be reported lost or stolen would get caught rather quickly.
Oh BTW, "Verizon" is seen as "Venison" in the DU spell checker. :9

1. Police report is standard for any insured item. |

I suspect it cuts down on the number of fraudulent claims.

2. Logical and that's what I thought... |

Until I found out how Verizon keeps its ESD #s in a person's history. THEY know the phone is stolen. It is their insurance plan. If ANYBODY tries to use it, they are instantly found out and put in deep doo-doo. Since I don't have it, I can't use it or attempt to fraud (which, in today's age, would be too easy to get caught.)
It just seems redundant.

3. But you could give it or sell it to someone and just say it was stolen. |
|
Well, not you, but someone. By requiring the police report, they likely cut out those type of scams.
So did you get a new phone yet?

4. Oh I see. Maybe I will file a report them... |

Yeah, I bought a new phone. I've 13 days left to return it and go for the other model if I prefer. It was a PDA/cell combo, which I liked... except the Windows Mobile 5 OS would render one of my apps useless. I might be able to live without it... otherwise, given its features and integrated fold-up keyboard, I am rather tempted by it...
