I'm really lucky my cat isn't dead, I think.
I was at work all day, and when I got home, my internet was down. The modem and router are in my room mates closet, so I popped into her room to reset them. I open the closet and my cat comes flying out. He was stuck in a dark, tiny, HOT closet all day. We're talking hours and hours and hours.
So now he's wandering around crying, hopefully he'll go drink some water and cheer up. I feel so bad. I think I need to give my room mate a talking to about checking on kitty whereabouts.

Oddly, my cat5 was unplugged from the router. V. V. strange.

Not my Ion! He's my positively charged bundle of scientific joy!

You do realize I'm in Canada right? You'll have to chop down my igloo before you'll get to him.

It was probably just a bit uncomfortable that's all. :)

Can't have been fun though, hah!

15. Well, the closets on an outside wall
that faces the sun for most of the day. So, I dunno, can't that hurt/kill them, not unlike being trapped in a car?

24. possibly; they can get overheated and die as they can only
perspire through their mouths , just like dogs

I hope it never happens again

13. Glad he's okay!
We've had our kitties climb into the attic, under the house and into closets when we weren't looking and get shut in. Fortunately, no casualties! Hobbes survived a few days under the house when she followed a plumber in and got shut in there! We kept looking for her and finally thought of the crawl space! They've gotten in closets many times - I'm sure your baby will be okay.
:-)

16. poor guy!
Maybe he could wear a little bell in the summer so this doesn't happen again. :( Cats can be so quiet at times...I can see how your roomate could accidentally do this.

18. Aww, sweet handsome kitty!

A bell is a good idea. Or is there maybe a repellant smell for cats, something you could put in the closet, like mothballs? Anybody know?

Glad he's okay.

22. Oh, I'm so sorry for your poor kitty!
Luckily most cats do have a high heat tolerance due to their evolution in hot climates.

One time I inadvertantly closed my black/white male (he was a kitten) in a DRAWER. We were only gone maybe two hours, but still ... :(

26. domestic cats are descendants of desert cats.....
Edited on Tue Jul-25-06 08:02 PM by Gato Moteado
...they can go a long time without water. in a closet for a day is nothing.

but, glad your cat is "out of the closet". someone had to say it!

36. I love tuxedo cats
My first cat, Chuckie, was a tuxedo cat.

He died when I was 7 or 8 at the ripe old age of 21. Hope your guy lasts that long.

I keep all my closet doors ajar because it's easier than checking the closets before I leave and I am too absent-minded to keep track....love on him a bit and offer extra treats

She survived, but she would not speak to anyone for days. Cats are amazing survivors.
