Mailed snake sparks postal panic
A woman caused panic in a German post office when a 1.5m (5ft) albino python snake she was trying to send through the mail broke free of its packaging.

The 28-year-old woman had sold the snake over the internet and was mailing it to its new owner labelled "glass".

"Staff accepted the package and put it in the back of the office - they had no idea what it was," police said.

"All of a sudden, they noticed that it started moving around and then saw a big snake wriggling out of it."

and the kicker..."It is not illegal for people to send snakes via mail" :wtf:

1. Snakes in a Post Office!
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 12:18 AM by AlienGirl
On edit: standard procedure is to label things like that as Live Animals. I don't know if this is done in reptile circles, but tarantula breeders often label the packages "Live Crickets" ('cause "Live Giant Spiders" might scare people).

7. I hope they didn't freak too badly and scare the poor
snake. I feel for snakes. They get such a bad rep. I'd hate to have to see humans through their eyes. Imagine if every time a human saw you, they started freaking and panicking. Poor snake.

16. I once had a friend who had one of those.
Said he was watching television one night, while he had her out to roam around the place. He said when he looked over, she was all curled up asleep next to a rat that had gotten in. The rat was asleep too. He said he decided to name the rat and kept it as a pet too.

18. I used to have a ball python.
On my old cell phone (it was stolen), I had a great picture of the python curled up sleeping on my cat, right on the couch next to me while I was watching tv.

14. what if a whole bunch of them were sent
by airmail?
And a bunch of them got out in the middle of the flight.

I bet that would make a great movie.

19. It might not be illegal, but what a terrible thing to do to a snake.
Jesus. Did she at least make some air holes for it?
