Look where I camped this weekend! (Panorama)
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 12:15 PM by mrbassman03

This is Yellow Aster Butte by Mt. Baker. It really shows why I love living in Bellingham. It's a 40 minute drive to the trailhead and a 2.5 hour hike to get here. I set the camera up on a tomato sauce jar and did the whole "turn the camera a little bit, a little more..." thing. I think it turned out pretty well actually.

I'm thinking about getting this printed. This is a smaller version, if I keep it actual size, it'll be a 4 foot long photo... Though not sure where to go to do that, any ideas? Kinkos?

1. That is beautiful!
I am jealous, and I think you should get it printed. That would be great over a couch. :hi:

I'd love to play in a little snow this time of year.

4. Skinny dipping in a frozen lake in July was pretty cool :)
Both literally and figuratively, I guess. Though the bugs definitely let us know that it was indeed summer.

7. Did y'all tent camp?
I'm assuming so, since you hiked to the site. What kind of set-up did y'all have for meals etc.

That is just a gorgeous place. Nothing like that anywhere near me!

8. Yep! Hauled up a bunch of gear...
It was just four of us this time, so we brought a small tent. I just picked up the JetBoil stove system, so we had a hot meal at the end of the day. Since it was one night, we felt alright with hauling up a bunch of tasty eats that we wouldn't normally bring on a backpacking trip. Penne with roasted garlic and Italian sausage. A nice bottle of pinot noir and some crusty bread. The little stove packs away into the pot it comes with, so it couldn't be easier. There are no fires allowed in the Baker Wilderness area, so we bundled up and relied on eating good food to keep us warm. If I weren't moving next weekend, I'd be back up in the mountains in a heartbeart.

sounds like one camping supply that I don't yet have.

6. Up by Mt. Baker, close to Bellingham, WA
Take the Mt. Baker HWY about 40 miles out. There is a gravel road that is right past the DOT building on the left side. Take that about 5 miles up and the trailhead is there. It is a pretty intense hike, short though. This shot is where most people camp if going up there to backpack. Mindblowing, unobstructed views of the Milky Way with zero light or noise pollution. And sunsets behind Baker. I did it with friends two weekends in a row just because it was so incredible the first time.

I was hiking up there right now, instead of sweltering in the lowlands of S. California.

12. Definately get it printed
That's just awesome. Call some print shops around your area for people who have plotters or printers who can handle the length. Kinko's might, but might not. AT least not at photo quality.

The other thing you can do is have it printed in pieces and mesh them together in a long frame.

check out here. I don't know if it's big enough but it's a start
