JUST IN....The Scoop On Ice Cream Headaches

SEATTLE - It's commonly called an ice cream headache, but it can be caused by eating or drinking anything that's really cold.A brain freeze, as the kids call it, usually lasts about 30 seconds or so. But that throbbing in your head can really knock you for a loop.

4. Sorry, the sarcasm was not pointed at you.
I thought you were also posting about the shallow stories that the corporate media was covering. I thought you might have also seen the Stephen Colbert segment, last night, where he showed all the fluff pieces that the corporate news is covering.

Yes, it is a good tip for people who get these headaches. Someone told me, just last month, that the way to cope with this is to suck your thumb. I am on a diet and have not had a chance to try that but just thought I would throw that in.

14. You are welcome....
and, again, I really am sorry for the understanding. I am positive this will help folks who are afraid to eat ice cream.

3. The way to avoid this, Phil says
"is not to put the ice cream on the top of your mouth, but actually chew it on the side of your mouth."

Yeah, but that doesn't feel real good either when it hits all those fillings I have my teeth.

But seriously, this is a technique my wife uses to help her migraine headaches which I can see from the article, "What happens in our brains is a nerve reaction that actually swells the blood vessels," why this helps.

Thanks for posting

7. That's interesting
I should try that while I'm in the middle of the migraine.
As it is, brain freeze actually sets off my migraines - that's
the only absolute predictor I have for them.

9. However, migraines cause the blood vessels to constrict
and as the article says, "brain freeze" causes the vessels to expand. All I know is my wife swears by it which is why I had to stop at DQ last night and get a moolaty and they are soooooo good I just can't sip them. Hence my case of brain freeze.

12. How exactly does your wife use the ice cream?
Do tell. I get the most horrendous migraines. I've tried everything - most recently botox treatments which are costly and it appears I may be having a reaction to the botox itself. Now the heat is triggering attacks. There appears to be no end in sight. To the heat or the migraines.

16. Yeah, the heat is triggering them for my wife.
Well real simple, she orders a moolaty that we can get here from Dairy Queen, or a milkshake will do as long as it is very cold, and she just drinks them fast, which I am sure would cause me to pass out, but she claims that they help her mitigate an oncoming migraine.

17. I think that what happens to me
is that they expand, but constrict suddenly after that. That's what
sets off my migraines. However, if I'm already having a migraine, it
might help. Interesting idea!

15. "Don't drink slushies"?
OK, I understood each individual word you used, but somehow you arranged them in a manner that makes absolutely no sense to me. Could you possibly rephrase that?

11. Ice cream never does it to me, but Slurpees always do
Cold dairy products don't bother me-ice cream, yogurt, milkshakes, etc.

Slurpees and slushies always do. Maybe the machines make them colder than a freezer does?
