Okay, I have a confession: I love Seal.
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 04:55 PM by WritingIsMyReligion

This is a really great album, despite the fact that it is pop. I usually don't spring for much pop, but Seal is soulful in his delivery. And the usage of purposefully over-the-top, digital-tinged, sweeping melodies is actually not at all detrimental to the sound of the album...It really guides his voice, without making you feel like he has deficiencies he is trying to cover up, and sounds great.

"Prayer for the Dying," "Dreaming in Metaphors," and "Kiss From a Rose" are my favorites. All Music Guide (MacKenzie Wilson) gives this album a 4.5/5 star rating, and I must agree.

14. I read on Wikipedia that he really calls rappers on their
degradation of women in songs in videos.

Now, granted, that is Wikipedia, but that doesn't go against what I've heard of him.

:D

13. I was talking about this specific album.
:P :P

It's the only one we have, and it's technically my mother's. I pillaged it from her car (she has a 6-disk player in there!) for my personal use for a while.

I would like to get the other albums, even though critics pissed on Human Being and weren't too enchanted by Seal IV.

16. Heh.
I definitely agree with you when it comes to jazz. You have an accomplished ear, especially taking your age into consideration (which isn't really necessary, as good music is good music regardless of one's age).

That said, I don't understand your taste in pop and rock. Oh, well. :hi:

17. What, you don't like Seal? Steely Dan?

I like more than Steely Dan, of course...I love Pink Floyd, and the Grateful Dead, the Stones, the Beatles, whatever. And, yes, bands like Boston and whatever, and, yes, JAZZ!11!11! :D

Oh well. C'est la vie. ;)

:hi:

18. I like what the Stones did in the first 10 years.
Once Mick Taylor left, it was all downhill. The lads from Liverpool had a few good tunes as well. ;)

To be honest, and this goes against what I just said about good music being good music regardless... I liked a lot of the stuff you're into when I was 14. Okay, I didn't like Billy Joel. But I TRIED to like Steely Dan. I thought I was supposed to, or something.

My world got a lot larger as I got older, is all. I still like the Beatles and Stones. I LOVE the Who. I'm certainly not someone who's going to pooh-pooh something for no other reason than because it's played on the classic rock station. But most of what's played on the CR station... meh.

"Crap" seems to be a fair subjective term. :D

20. I love Walrus
his moustache mostly, but his songs are pretty good too, although the grunting gets kind of repetitive.
