Star Trek Personality Test... (Meyer's Briggsy type thingy)
Test is at:http://scifi.about.com/library/weekly/aa080201.htm

Star Trek Personality Test Results: ESTP

This test says you are an ESTP (Extrovert, Sensor, Thinker, Perceiver).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of Geordi La Forge, Montgomery Scott, and Tasha Yar.

Qualities

People like you are generally highly observant and totally present in the moment. You're active and adventurous, so you can sometimes be impulsive, even when confronted with danger. You're not interested in regrets if your impulsiveness causes you to make an error, however. You're a free spirit, even though you may strike others as conventional.

You enjoy taking risks and tend to come down very hard on yourself for any perceived weakness.

You're very adept socially and easily make friends, especially when people are honest with you. You're talkative and adaptive to people and situations, though you prefer to be casual. You can be logical and calm, but you love to have fun. You've got a great sense of humor, and you're charming whenever you want to be.

You're also quite literal, a practical person who makes good use of your intense curiosity.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is the freedom to have fun and to fully experience life in the here and now. Your reward is to be surrounded by people who share your sense of risk and see the humor in life's little situations. You love to play with your children, or with others who are able to relax and be "big kids" themselves.

Work

You must have freedom to act on your impulses at work. You probably do better in jobs that do not immediately serve the public, as you tend to get irritated and even hostile with others when you're under stress. You're quite social, but you can fall out of step with others' feelings if you're not careful.

Relationships

As long as things are casual, you can "go with the flow." But when something is important to you, you're willing, even eager for an argument. It is vital that your mate be able enjoy the occasional heated debate, but beware of the partner who turns all conversations into arguments. You like to experience things fully, including the dramatic and unpleasant. You also get easily bored, though when a relationship is new, you tend to be generous to a fault.

Jobs

Good careers for your type include emergency medical technician, corrections officer, security chief, civil engineer, chief engineer, marine biologist, and developer of electronic games.

Interesting side note: I am a security guard and hope to become a security chief. :)

1. INTJ
INTJ

This test says you are an INTJ (Introvert, Intuitive, Thinker, Judger).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of Jean-Luc Picard, Seven of Nine, and T'Pol.

People like you are generally autonomous, reserved (perceived by others as "aloof"), and intellectual. You sometimes give the impression you have no need of others, but you're intensely curious and driven to learn. You're cautious with others socially and respond best to people who don't push you to be friendly or affectionate. You appreciate when others follow your lead and accept your advice in the helpful spirit in which it is intended. You're calm by nature and feel off-balance when confronted by highly emotional people.

You're highly organized and expect the same of others. You analyze automatically and enjoy seeing patterns and trends. When your mind is made up, that's it, which means that while you're definitive and strong, you can be stubborn and arrogant. You live in a world of ideas.

You respond best to other people's needs when they tell you about them clearly. You value honesty greatly and you're excellent at employing constructive criticism. You prize people who listen to you and respect your ideals. You are somewhat contemptuous of those who don't pay attention to what you say and extremely contemptuous of those who can't do their jobs well.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is achieving independence and being able to live according to your own standards. Your reward is continual expansion of your competence and knowledge.

Work

You are almost completely project-driven. Though you won't work against your fundamental principles, the current job before you can consume pretty much all other considerations. You will perform all-out for a superior you respect, but you have a sometimes unfortunate tendency to let bosses know when they've lost your admiration, or when you disagree with them.

You lead and follow equally well, as long as you believe that what you're doing will work. Perceived futility can make you shut down, and you will suffer intense feelings of failure if your end product is not "perfect." A good supervisor will give you praise for all successes. A bad one will only add to your stress by pointing out problems you already know about for which you are probably already punishing yourself. When stressed, you may deny blame out of self-preservation.

Make sure you market yourself and your ideas at work, or you may be taken for granted. All too often, the logic of your strategy can be lost on others, so don't resent it when asked to explain your actions.

Relationships

Social skills may be your undoing, especially making small talk at parties or flirting with strangers. You feel everything very deeply, so you've learned to keep what you feel to yourself. This combination can alienate people instantly and even make stubborn suitors give up in frustration.

On the flip side, you can learn to interpret others' visual and vocal signals with expertise if you're willing to make the effort. You're better at understanding people than you may think, and you work hard at relationships you care about. But beware answering someone's request for emotional support with advice and solutions.

Jobs

Good careers for your type include being a starship captain, intellectual property attorney, news analyst, design engineer, software developer, inventor, Webmaster, architect, and ex-Borg.

I liked Picard, but I'm not familiar with the other characters. After TNG I stopped watching the newer series.

2. ISTJ
This test says you are an ISTJ (Introvert, Sensor, Thinker, Judger).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of Spock and Miles O'Brien.

"I'm sorr...I regret that I can come up with no other logical alternative." - Spock

Qualities

People like you are generally logical, honest and upfront. You get impatient with phonies and people who are disorganized, though you keep your reactions to yourself, as you're usually cautious and quiet, though not timid. Others find you reliable and will count on your being there in times of need. You make a loyal and responsible friend, though only when others remember that you're conservative in nature. You're a great listener.

You're literal, realistic, and practical. You're a hard worker who does very well in highly detailed situations, as you're careful and precise.

You are also somewhat resistant to change and comfortable with routine. When change occurs, you'll be the last one to fit it into your routine, but you'll become an expert in time. You work much better to adapt to change when you see practical benefits.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is to be of service and do your job well. Your best rewards are to be listened to and to be acknowledged for your hard work.

Work

You perform best when able to apply proven procedures to tasks and obstacles. You distruct innovative but untried methods, but you will push to make them work and only abandon them when you've proven they don't work. However, if you perceive a new method as a threat, you'll fight it tooth and nail.

Your supervisor must appreciate you. If you're working for someone who takes your hard work and absolute reliability for granted, you'll wither if you don't change positions. If you get a good boss, you'll happily stay with them forever.

You need to balance out your own tendency to see things as black/white, right/wrong, so seek out a coworker/friend/lover/boss who can offer you options "outside the box."

Relationships

You show your love and care of others in your actions, not with words. Your friends and lovers are most treasured when they provide you with security. You get impatient with people who constantly need reassurances about your feelings. You thrive in warm, silent companionship.

Jobs

Good careers for your type are operations officer, chief information officer, database administrator, police detective, and science officer.

3. ESTJ
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 01:52 AM by LeftyMom
Star Trek Personality Test Results: ESTJ

This test says you are an ESTJ (Extrovert, Sensor, Thinker, Judger).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of William Riker, B'Elanna Torres, and Charles "Trip" Tucker.

"I don't inflate my work estimates. When I say 24 hours, I mean it." - Torres

Qualities

People like you are generally quick decision makers (as long as emotions aren't involved), organized and efficient. Your personality is charismatic, friendly and energetic, but you take life seriously and can be quite opinionated on your own turf. You're extremely outspoken when you feel you're in the right. You have great trouble dealing with people who are dishonest and/or disorderly.

You're highly productive, realistic, and sensible. You're great at dealing with problems as long as you can take them systematically. Somewhat of a traditionalist, you're distrustful of new and untested ideas, and you're more than a little blunt telling others how you feel about them, or about whatever other faults you see. When you give a compliment, however, you mean it.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is doing the right thing, and being in charge. This is balanced by a faith in the tried and true, which means you are happy out of the driver's seat, as long as you have faith in the driver.

Work

Your reward is to be appreciated by others and have your opinion respected. You also enjoy having others willingly follow your orders. Your best work environment is orderly and disciplined, but you're a good people-person, so social interaction is an important part of your routine. You cannot abide dealing with others who will not do their work or those who have no ideals. But this can also mean you have trouble recognizing others' ideals, or agreeing with them even when you do see them.

Relationships

You prize family over friendships, but once a friend becomes "family" to you, you will be their friend literally for life. You have the strength, patience, and fortitude to be a great parent, but you are hampered by your difficulties in dealing with other people's feelings and with the "messiness" of relationships. In a mate, it is vital that you select someone who is in touch with their emotions and will demand the same of you.

Jobs

Good careers for your type include being a command officer, pharmacist, starship engineer, teacher, cook, and personnel manager.

edit: Hmm, I've never tested out as an extrovert before.

12. INFJ
Same result every time on all Myers Brigg.

This test says you are an INFJ (Introvert, Intuitive, Feeler, Judger).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of Benjamin Sisko and Jonathan Archer.

"It takes courage to look inside yourself, and even more courage to write it for others to see." - Sisko

Qualities

People like you are typically global thinkers with great passion for your unique vision. You are highly creative, original, and independent. Your idea of torture is to be stuck in a rut, and you get impatient with people who doubt your insights or want to stick to traditional methods for tradition's sake. Your best friends share their feelings and opinions easily without forcing them down your throat. You are greatly offended when others show disrespect for your beliefs and values. You dislike disorder in your personal space.

As you are quiet in your "natural" state, people can easily misjudge the depth of your devotion. You are inspired, not impulsive. You're even cautious, deliberate and eager to make plans. You're polite and somewhat reserved, especially as others have made you feel awkward for your beliefs in the past. You're quite organized and, when properly motivated, highly productive.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is to follow through on your ideas and be faithful to your vision. Your reward is to have others trust your inspiration and to watch your dreams come true.

Work

Your career must serve society, particularly those factions that need a champion. As you have a strong suspicion regarding the corruption of institutions, you need to believe not only in your own work, but in that of the company/institution your work for. You may simply have given up on trusting others and work by yourself (at least in your own mind).

Beware becoming too involved in office conflicts and politics. It's hard for you to distance yourself from others' conflicts, but the upsets associated with your empathy may severely interfere with your ability to do your job and to act for your own good.

Relationships

Your sense of idealism extends automatically to your relationships, so personal betrayal is disastrous. You're not the greatest with day-to-day needs and details, so a life partner (or assistant at work) with good organizational skills will makes things easier.

You can smell a phony from a mile away and are quick to condemn, so you probably don't have that many close friends. Ironically, others may feel quite differently from you and consider you a friend when you think of them only as an acquaintance.

Jobs

Good careers for your type include special education teacher, holistic health practitioner, director of religious education, art director, writer, editor, and religious educator.

14. INFP
INFP (but I already knew :D)

This test says you are an INFP (Introvert, Intuitive, Feeler, Perceiver).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of Garak, Kes, and Phlox.

"Unless I'm mistaken, they are preparing to mate. Do you think they might let me watch?" - Phlox

Qualities

People like you are generally nonconforming, deeply passionate, and highly dedicated to your personal values. You're reserved, which covers a sensitive spirit easily hurt, the deepest sense of conviction, and a constant state of wonder. You're highly imaginative and creative. You're curious and often study others quietly. You're flexible in small matters. You don't dance to other people's tunes, but you can pretend you do. You get what you want by talking, not screaming.

You're loving and dedicated to people you care about, but you do not compromise your principles for them. Your sense of what is right comes first, even before yourself. You respond best to people who respect your privacy until you let them in, then provide you with emotional intimacy.

You're not the world's most tidy person, nor are you fond of housework and bill-paying. However, if you apply yourself, you may discover a hidden talent for dealing with money.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is to be true to your deeply held beliefs and to live in harmony with your values. Your reward is to have your ideas benefit others.

Work

It is vital to your energy that you enjoy the feelings of "good triumphing over evil." Revel in your victories and watch out for becoming dispirited over life's inevitable failures. You have a great capacity for fantasy, so you may want to turn inward to a world where everything is perfect to the detriment of your effectiveness in "reality." Your nobility includes a propensity for self-sacrifice, but under great stress, you can question your own identity.

A good supervisor will keep your position clearly defined and encourage your curiosity with praise and open support. A bad supervisor will take advantage of your habit for taking the blame for everything, including the weather and acts of God.

Relationships

You have a very strong sense of other people's feelings and are loyal to the core. You are affable and cordial as a rule, but when your values are challenged (or someone you care about is threatened) you can be surprisingly vicious. Be careful about lashing out at others for merely perceived threats.

You may have difficulties in over-romanticizing your relationships, particularly when you feel sincere love. Your desire for idealized perfection in harmony may make you too sensitive to ordinary setbacks and conflicts. On the other hand, your genuine desire to care may make you insensitive to when others don't want to be helped.

Jobs

Good careers for your type include being a psychologist, human resources professional, Cardassian spy, physical therapist, translator/interpreter, legal mediator, college professor of humanities, and art director.

The I is on the mark but usually I get "thinker" rather than feeler. However, I have to say the "Qualities" section does sound like me and the Goals and Work blurbs sound pretty on spot too. But my career is no where near what is listed in Jobs - perhaps I should consider a career change FSM knows I'm feeling pretty unfulfilled at my job lately. ;)

24. INTJ...interesting...
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 12:20 PM by nickinSTL
Picard, 7 of 9 and T'Pol

On Myers-Briggs inventories in the past, I've always been ISTJ...
I gather that would be Spock and Miles O'Brien.

I have to say that a lot of the description of the INTJ is pretty accurate, though.

26. ISTP
Star Trek Personality Test Results: ISTP

This test says you are an ISTP (Introvert, Sensor, Thinker, Perceiver).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of Odo and Wesley Crusher.

"I integrate as much as I want to." - Odo

Qualities

People like you are generally extremely logical and pragmatic, to the point of being somewhat aloof. When you need to be, you can function in a highly objective and unemotional manner, but you also tend to be impulsive and incredibly curious about the world around you. You love to explore, to find out how things work, and you believe you have the abilities needed to deal with what you find.

You don't feel the need to tell others about your abilities. You like your work to show your stuff for you, so you tend to be quiet and unassuming in your manner. You are also flexible and resourceful. You do your best work when left alone. You're highly self-reliant, and may have some trouble working as a member of a team. You cannot stand people who nag or who demand to know what you're feeling when you don't feel like "sharing" right now.

Your task-oriented nature may hide your outgoing and adventurous nature. If your job doesn't involve risk-taking, you'll take up a hobby or sport that fulfills the need to lay it on the line.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is being granted the freedom to act independently and follow your impulses. Your reward is to be appreciated for your ability to solve problems and to have others go along with your impulses and have fun with you.

Works

You tend to view obstacles in terms of "fixing" them, rather than in terms of right and wrong. When you own a task, you will do whatever it takes to become successful, however others may feel about it. You may break rules without hesitation, especially restrictions that you perceive as political or arbitrary.

Your supervisor will get the most out of you by putting you in practical situations, not shoving you into training sessions and workshops. You dislike wasting effort and will resist tasks when you don't see their point, even if it gets you in trouble. You have a rare talent of allowing others into your work space when the task benefits, though you are otherwise highly protective or your personal space. You care less about getting credit than in going home after work is done and feeling good about the day's work.

If you feel trapped, you will rebel, so you may have quit more than one job without regret.

Relationships

If a friendship or love is currently fulfilling your needs, you will be dutiful and attentive. If a relationship interferes with something "more important," you'll sacrifice it with an ease that others may well find upsetting.

Both casual acquaintances and close friends may have trouble with your perceived aloofness. While you will listen closely to other's needs and enjoy trying to fulfill them, you can be over-quiet about your own needs, frustrating others who care about you. You sometimes mistake kindness and generosity for unwanted charity or unneeded help.

A good mate for you is self-sufficient and ready to have fun.

Jobs

Good careers for your type include being a computer programmer, police officer, commercial pilot, commercial artist, private investigator, manipulator of temporal/spatial dimensions, and animal trainer.

28. I got INFJ, but
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 12:47 PM by supernova
I usually get INTJ on the regular MB tests.

My F/T functions must be fairly close.

Otherwise fairly accurate. I am definitely intelletually independent, some would say adventurous with ideas, and don't like to be in a rut. I can be asocial too, tho' I am extremely empathetic and passionate with those I am close to.

This puts me in the same company as Sisko and Archer. Pretty good. Archer is a good capt even if that series was dumb. Sisko is da bomb! :-)

29. INTP
People like you are generally quiet until you have something important to say. You are extremely independent and fiercely private. You're logical and can seem unemotional, but also quite innovative and creative. Your smile or snarl can hide your wily ingenuity. You're a global thinker, curious about politics. You are driven to succeed and to prove to yourself your high level of competence. The beauty of artistic excellence speaks directly to your heart.

You're also a nonconformist and quite unpredictable. When you want to adapt to the needs of others, however, it's easy. You prefer to be casual. You love word games.

You respond best to people who honor your privacy and independence, who appreciate your ideas and have no trouble leaving you alone. You can't stand a demand for some big emotional talk when you haven't figured out exactly how you feel and what to do about it.

You don't like clutter, but you're not always tidy. You hate it when other people see your messes or comment on them. And you don't like to be nagged, ever.

Sounds about right to me. :)

30. ENTP - Harry Kim and Neelix
Hmmm previously these tests have said I'm an INTP, which I believe is more accurate since I would not self describe as extroverted.

31. Interesting, but I doubt its accuracy.
I've taken the Meyers Briggs several times over the years, and I consistently come out either INTP or a very close variant. This test, however, rated me as an ISFP. ISFP does ring true in many areas for me though.

This test says you are an ISFP (Introvert, Sensor, Feeler, Perceiver).* In Star Trek, you share a basic personality configuration with the characters of Bareil, Hoshi Sato, and The Doctor.

ISFP

"Who’s picking these movies? Shouldn't we all get a vote?" - Sato

Qualities

People like you are a complex blend of the empathetic and realistic. You're kind, thoughtful and affectionate with those you know well, though strangers may find you reserved and/or brusque. When you're comfortable, you can be quite humble and gentle with others. When threatened, you tend to shut down. You adapt well to the needs of others without compromising yourself, achieving peace and usefulness with your environment. You're very down-to-earth, and you are deadly serious about your personal values.

You're faithful, but highly sensitive to criticism. You get your feelings hurt easily. You like to help others in practical ways and dislike confrontations.

If you're a strong introvert, you tend to be quiet and soft-spoken. If you're more extroverted, you may overcompensate for shyness.

Often, and to others' surprise, you are impulsive and wild, doing something because you darn well feel like it. You are often the first in your circle to try something, and you delight in new experiences. You're curious about how and why things work, but you explore with sensitivity.

Goals

Your primary goal in life is feeling peaceful and harmonious with the people and places that matter most to you. Your reward is to be accepted and loved just the way you are.

Work

You thrive when you can teach yourself. You have a great balance in loving poetry and daydreams without losing your strong sense of reality. Your position needs to allow creativity. A good supervisor will realize that you stumble across your best ideas when you're rambling or experimenting, trusting that your work ethic controls unproductive play.

Beware blaming others for your own faults when you're under stress and what may be a knee-jerk reaction to denying your own mistakes. Ease stress by defining your personal space.

Relationships

You can be the most attentive of friends and lovers, but you have difficulty speaking up when you feel wronged. As you have a deep cynicism lurking in your heart, a mate who does not monitor your needs may lead you to give up on the whole relationship, or mankind in general.

Acquaintances may find you detached and unfeeling, but when you're intimate, you are loving and sensuous. You're more than capable of loving someone throughout your life without smothering them.

Jobs

Good careers for your type include Vedeck, primary care physician, interior designer, linguist, massage therapist, chef, and alcohol and drug addiction counselor.
