Girlfriend's computer infected
strange thing internet explorer dosn't open regularly and when i use a round about way(a folder's addressbar) it works just fine, when i use a shortcut though some dos prompt window pops up, i close it before it appears to do anything(it points to a temprary fill named something like NNCAFF.exe or something, im not sure on the name sense im posting this several hours after looking at the computer. theres no other programs that appear to run or anything, no rogue icons or anything so far. does anyone have any idea what this could possably be, other then the obligatory "trojan/spyware/virus" answere im talking specifics like a list of different things i can root through

4. Did you try running other programs (non-internet) than Internet Explorer?
Did they work? If so it suggests the problem is primarily with Internet Explorer.

Other things to try: Download and run Mozilla Firefox instead and see if that works (I think it's a better browswer anyway):

http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Also, try running antivirus software on it to see if it identifies any files (does she have antivirus software on it?).

5. You've answered your question
She's picked up a nasty bug somewhere, download the latest versions of ewido, avg anti virus and run them, hopefully that will kill it.

i was asking what it was specificly so i can tell her how to remove it, those antivirus programs you mention they are free right? meaning they dont just give you the files and ask for money before removing them right?

6. Go here
http://snapfiles.com
Enter trojan killer in the search function, or spy killer, or virus killer, all three actually, there are many free programs that should fix your problem, or many programs with a trial period you can use for free to fix your problem, good luck.

8. There is also an online virus checker site...
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Of course, these things only help if the virus on your P.C. has been previously
identified.

11. Not rude
Just go to the link, try this, that, and the other thing, something will work, and it won't cost you anything but time.
