The many aspects of apartment living
And why do they call them apartments anyway when they are all together?

I hate that I can hear my neighbors' TVs and stereos through the walls. My upstairs neighbor is the worst. I would have called in before but I thought a cop lived there so I figured it would be pointless. I guess he just visits his girlfriend or whatever because tonight he showed up at my door. I guess MY stereo was too loud but I had shut it off already. I listen sometimes in the tub and what with the fans and the a/c, it's hard to hear.

I hate not having a garage or carport. A washer and dryer would be nice too. I hate having to come up with enough quarters for the machines every week. Some apartments have washer/dryer connections but not the ones I can afford right now. A backyard would be nice even if I had to mow. I can't have a grill either because they (the apartment managers) won't let us store them on the patio and you cannot store them inside (fire code). Although it hasn't stopped others so I am not so sure about this. I hate the fact that I would lose everything in a hurricane because, even with renter's insurance, it does not cover water damage and I cannot get flood insurance because I am renter. And my aparment manager said I could not put plywood on the windows in the event of a storm (and they wouldn't do it either). Last time some people did anyway- I don't know what happened to them. I could put it inside I guess.

I can't paint the BORING white walls. And I will have this dingy beige carpeting until I move out, even though it is getting really ratty.

The only good thing is maintenance. I do not have to do any and they are good about responding.

I guess I should start thinking about finding a duplex or something to rent. At least then I would only have one neighbor. I would like to own a house or something but there is no way in hell I will ever be able to afford one (unless the bubble bursts). Not on my salary and not as long as I am by myself which will probably be forever at the rate I am going.

1. Aw, don't get too down.
I can tell by the way you write and express yourself that you have a great future. Try not to let your environment control your feelings. Look inside of yourself. I suspect it is beautiful in there. :)

2. Thanks
Having one of those days I guess. Been on vacation but I have to go back to work tomorrow. I know, I need to get some noise-canceling headphones. It won't solve everything but at least I wont hear anyone else.

3. Roman Polanski covered it all in these three films...
