Advice wanted: Keep trying, or give up the ghost?

Maybe 18 months ago, a friend of my wife that formally worked for a large global corporation in the Hartford, CT area put my wife in touch with an executive from this corporation, saying that my wife was interested in a job there.

She first went in for a panel interview in their corporate office and spoke with a few corporate people and a couple of others from various divisions. She did well and they said she would be a really good fit for a supply chain job of their newest division.

So, she went over to interview at this new division with a VP there. She did well again, but the guy did not have any appropriate openings at the time.

Not long after that, one of the guys from the panel interview called her in for an interview at his aerospace division of the company (different division than above).

She did okay on that interview, but they filled the job with an internal candidate with more applicable experience (my wife's background is in Asia, while this job was focused on Europe) The hiring manager told her to keep trying because she was talented and just needed to find the right fit.

Late last year, she was contacted independently by a third division of this company for a lower level job. She went in for that interview and did well again, but both sides agreed that my wife was overqualified for the job.

Maybe 4-5 months ago, my wife saw a job online in Massachusetts for a company that was part of the new division above. She contacted the VP of the new division she interviewed with last year, and he forwarded my wife’s information on to them. She went in for that interview and did well again, but they said she would be a better fit for a job opening they will have later this year.

Obviously, my wife is frustrated at not getting a job at this company after coming close so many times. Should she swallow her pride and keep trying? Or, do you think she should give up the ghost and say it is not meant to be?

1. If they treat her like that before she's even hired

can you imagine how they will treat her once she works for them?

I'd run in the opposite direction as fast as I could. There's something to be said for tenacity but there's also that definition of insanity--doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

3. well, I don't know if it's bad treatment

or just bad timing. I mean, if she had said she wanted the 3rd job, despite being overqualified, she would have gotten it.

2. Persistence pays off. If she really feels this company is the right place

what does it hurt to keep trying? It seems like her skills are good enough to get a job there, but she's just not getting the right timing. Honestly, I can't think of any reason to throw in the towel.
