In re the satellite TV repair discussion.......
For those who were discussing whether or not they would be charged a service charge for their satellite TV dish repair, here's my experience from yesterday.

I phoned customer service for DirecTV. After testing the signal strength over the phone and trying to restore it by sending a signal to the receiver, the customer service agent recommended sending out a technician. No charge, he said. So that's very good news.

He said the breaking up of channels and the total gray screen on certain channels was due to the fact that the receivers were only getting 44 percent signal strength! So those of you who are having trouble, try finding the place where the signal strength is shown on the screen. The first two numbers in the 1-8 column indicate signal strength.

Perhaps I would have been charged if the signal strength was good, meaning an equipment failure.

Anyway, the agent was very courteous.
