Homemade Ice Cream and Strawberries |
|
My wife got a cuisineart Ice Cream and Yogurt Maker for Christmas. She makes some fantastic ice cream. Then she puts a cup of Strawberries in a blender and chops them up just a little, then drizzles the berries on the ice cream. God, I love her.

I definitely got the better end of the deal. She's great all over the house, the kitchen, the bedroom, just all over.

5. When I was a young lad |

growing up in Arkansas in the 60's I always had the job of cranking the ice cream maker when we went to Grandma's house. She would always fix either fried chicken or fried fish with all the incredible southern cooking fixings. Mash taters and gravy, fried okra, corn on the cob, cornbread, all homemade, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers in a bowl of cold vinegar. AAAAAAHHHH!

Well, I'd crank as long as I could before my arm would give out. I miss summers with the grandparents-food, swimming, playing dominoes....sigh

9. I still make my ice cream the old fashioned way |
|
I have a hand-crank ice cream freezer. Makes the best ice cream ever. I made fudge ice cream over the 4th of July... it didn't last very long!! I haven't gotten the store bought stuff in a long time. It's just not the same.

11. I would love to have my grandparents old handcrank |

ice-cream maker; more for sentimental reasons then anything. I have no idea what became of it. That sure does give one an appreciation of ice cream.

7. Try this chocolate sauce on it |
|
We had this without homemade vanilla ice cream and it was just about the best thing I've ever eaten.
DARK CHOCOLATE FUDGE SAUCE (From Midwest Living)
½ cup packed brown sugar ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder ¼ cup butter, cut up ¼ cup buttermilk, or, ¼ cup milk and 1 teaspoon lemon juice 5 ounces bittersweet chocolate or semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped 1 cup whipping cream ½ cup light colored corn syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla
1. In heavy medium saucepan, combine sugar and cocoa. Stir in butter and buttermilk. Add chocolate. Cook and stir over medium heat until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Stir in whipping cream and corn syrup. 2. Cook and stir over medium heat for 4 to 6 minutes or until mixture just boils around the edges. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Cool slightly. Serve warm over ice cream. Cover and chill any leftovers for up to 3 days. Sauce may also be frozen in a freezer container for up to one month. To reheat sauce in your microwave oven, allow 60 seconds on 100% power (high) for each cup, stirring once. Makes about 3 cups sauce. Amaretto Fudge Sauce: Prepare as above, except add 2 to 3 tablespoons amaretto, dark rum, crème de cacao, or other desired liqueur with vanilla. Espresso-Fudge Sauce: Prepare as above, except add 1 to 2 tablespoons instant espresso coffee or instant coffee crystals with the vanilla. Peanut Butter-Fudge Sauce: Prepare as above, except stir in ½ cup peanut butter and ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon with the vanilla.

My wife loves it when I start dragging out pots in the kitchen - not. That sounds outstanding. Midwest Living? We get Southern Living. Similar maybe? Recipes, gardening, etc...
