We can keep the kitty ... meet Sylvester!

The landlord doesn't want him. She says he's mean. So she sounded relieved that we're keeping him. What in the world was I worried about?

He's been neutered, wormed, vaccinated, chipped, and treated for fleas and ear mites. He's had quite a day! He's sound asleep on the deck now, happy as can be. He's still a little ragged around the edges, but he'll certainly improve with all the TLC we're giving him.

Here he is having his first meal after he got home: :loveya:

And here he is just relaxing: :loveya:

1. Wow. From the size of his legs
it looks like he's got some growing to do. How old is he?

He's a beautiful cat. I love the vivid stripes.

3. We don't really know.
At least a few years old, from what the neighbors told us. He's VERY long. I think he just needs to put on some weight. Those are the biggest feet I've ever seen on a cat! His profile looks just like a tiger. :loveya:

24. Here's how "mean" he is ...
I emailed the rescuers last night and asked them to have the vet microchip him. They didn't get the message until this morning, and he had already been neutered. So the rescuer asked the vet if he could still do it. The answer was, "We can do anything we want to him ... he's so sweet!" He let me use the flea comb on him when he got home. I did his back, sides, head, and even his tummy and tail. Cats know. ;)

Bring her on over. My kitties LOVE this house! It has a long hallway and a U-shaped staircase. It sounds like a herd of elephants when we're in the basement family room and they're upstairs running around. The first time harleydad heard it, he didn't believe me when I told him it was the cats. He thought we had burglars (noisy ones at that)! The new house will have two long hallways and staircases. Kitty heaven!

I love to see cats lying on their backs with their belly exposed. Cairo looks his bushiest in that position. When he's on all fours, he really only looks bushy from the rear view - his bloomers are quick thick.

96. She is a cutie.
Our daughter rescued her from Petsmart in 1997. She had been found in the woods, all beat up and with her dead kitten. She was very young, just barely old enough to have babies. We kept her while our daughter went to college ... and she never came back. So Sophie is unofficially ours. She fits well into the household.

"Cairo looks his bushiest in that position." Sophie does, too.

63. Surprisingly enough,
Satchmo is the least threatened and just sniffs at him through the screen. I think he's so darn glad to have another male around the place ... too durn many females! Sashka sort of ignores him. Sophie hisses a little, but not anything serious (she hisses at the others if they get too close to her food bowl -- she's all bark and no bite). Sabrina is curious and sniffs at him through the screen. She hisses occasionally, but he just meows back, "I'm a friendly boy, so don't worry."

It doesn't bother him in the least when they hiss. He is probably twice the size of any of them, so he probably thinks it's cute.

68. I don't think so.
I really do want an outside cat. They keep the snakes and rodents away, which is important out here.

Besides, I already have to get my sofa upholstered because someone clawed it. I sure don't want to have more of that happening! I'd have to get extra large sized soft paws for him!

62. He is a gorgeous kitty!
I am so glad he made his way to you. Cats know. They know who is going to help them and who might hurt them. I am so glad you decided to keep him! :)

He isn't "mean" at all. Some people just don't get along with cats.

78. They are huge, aren't they?
 Now, if he were a girl kitty, you'd have to whisper that. :loveya:

He is gorgeous. I wish they didn't have to clip his ear like that, but that's what they do with outdoor kitties to prevent them from getting trapped again. We still think he's wonderful. :loveya:

90. My sweet Lizzie
RIP

Came to me as a kitten, probably abandoned by another tenant because something was "funny" with her eyes (it never really got diagnosed & the closest I ever got to finding out what was wrong was a vet telling me she only had one eyelid on each eye instead of the 2 most cats have). For a long time, I thought she was blind or at least couldn't see very well, but then she disproved that theory by climbing trees & sleeping on the very edges of balconies. She hung out on my porch for about a week & then one day just marched herself into my apartment & headed straight to the food bowls in another room which she never could have seen from the door. She was a very loving, loyal cat & even though I still have a tribe (now including one dog), I miss my Lizzie very much.

Enjoy Sylvester! I'm sure you'll find him to be the most loving, loyal cat ever!

Lizzie sure was a special kitty. And she was beautiful! :loveya: Thanks for sharing her story.

Yes, I'm sure Sylvester will be wonderful. Now his mom just has to get used to the fact that he can't be on the deck where she can see him ALL the time.

I swear mine can teleport. Except for the latest addition, none of them go outside, but when they want to "disappear," they do & only come back when they feel like it. Drives me nuts!

100. He did that last night!
We bought a new kitty tunnel/club house thing and were inside putting it together. He was on the deck crying at us and we told him we'd come out in a bit. We didn't notice when he stopped crying, but he was nowhere to be found when we went back out. I looked EVERYWHERE, even under his favorite bush, called him ... NOTHING. Finally, we sat down to have a drink and guess who appears on top of the gate?

If she'd wanted him, I would have maybe presented the vet bill to her.

Thanks, auntA. I hope we have many years together, too. I've never had an outdoors cat before and I'm a bit nervous about it. The good thing, though, is that he stays pretty close to the house since we started feeding him. And he's figured out which door is closest to the kitchen.

87. I thought so.
But he doesn't have all the right fluffs on his face and ears. My sister says she saw his breed on the internet once but she can't remember what it was (he's obviously mixed, though). Some kind of tabby. His coat is interesting. The black fur is long and the salt-and-pepper is short. Very cool in real life.

I SHOULD have known it would work out. :silly:

:loveya: He looks gangly to me, too, but that may be because he hasn't been fed properly. He's at least a few years old. But we're hoping he fills out. He has an appetite that won't quit!

Thanks for stopping by to meet him. :loveya:
