Would women do the same thing if they slowly went bald the way we do?

(and how would women deal with ear hair? As it stops going on the head, it starts to grow out of the ears for some bizarre reason...)

1. An elderly female neighbor started losing her hair ...
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 08:05 PM by Lisa
Not all at the front (like the classic male pattern baldness) but it became much thinner, all over. She used to have straight hair, but fluffed it out in a perm -- so the hair loss wasn't as noticeable. One of my co-workers (in her 40s) has noticed that she's lost some hair at the front -- because she usually wears her hair pulled back in a ponytail, it is a bit more evident than if she had bangs at the front. She hasn't talked about wanting to change her hairstyle yet, though -- she seems to be just putting up with it for now.

I heard that Julius Caesar was one of the earliest historical figures described as having a combover (though there wasn't an exact word for it back then).

2. I believe the term is "wompage"
a man who combs one side over to the other has unilateral wompage

a man who combs both sides over to the other has bilateral wompage

3. Love the pics!

My mom combs her hair forward. She thinks shes hiding how thin it is on top. ;shrug: It looks better combed back, though.

I'd rather see a bald head than a comb over any day of the week.

4. During my short tenure as a hairdresser, I had a gentleman
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 08:12 PM by crim son
come in asking for a trim. He had a serious combover... I'm talking ten inches of hair which he used artfully to cover almost complete baldness. I started cutting, we started talking & I got distracted. I cut off the long hair to the same length as the rest of the head - about 1/2 an inch. It left a grotesque little fringy-stick-uppy deal in the front, where otherwise he'd have had bangs. The amazing thing is that he never said a word. Took it like a man, but I felt awful!

5. I tried shaving almost all my hair off once
I wanted to avoid being self-conscious if I started losing a lot of hair as I got older, so I gave myself a buzzcut to see what it's like.

I used to have hair down to my waist. Wore it in a ponytail much of the time. El Nino pretty much did me in back in 1998, so I had it snipped off and kept it short ever since.

8. Extreme heat and humidity - even for Texas
I mean, sure, it's hot and all that right now, but it's not El Nino hot.

6. They (we) had better watch out. The combover is patented!
Seriously. There's no way I could make this stuff up.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combover

The combover has a U.S. Patent 4,022,227 by Donald J. Smith and his father, the late Frank J. Smith, of Orlando, Florida, who were awarded an Ig Nobel Prize in Engineering for their effort.

Could this be the real reason Giuliani gave his up? (Now there's a :tinfoilhat: theory for you!)

11. Women have to much integrity and self-respect to start altering their
hair to cover up signs of aging.

12. yeah some older women do
if they've given up, they just sort of tease it and comb it over

younger women pretty much have to look into extensions or wigs, baldness is not socially acceptable enough to get by w. a come-over
