How come the early episodes of TV series always SUCK? |
|
Family Guy (Seasons 1 & 2 -- Yikes!)
The Simpsons (Seriously, WTF)
Seinfeld (The very definition of steely-faced unfunny)
The list goes on!

I think its primarily, trying to branch out, and test the viewer "waters" so to speak. But, there are series, which were better in their first two seasons...
Like Smallville for example, I enjoyed Season I and II a lot more than season III and IV...with the exception of a few handful of shows, in season III and IV, I would consider those season's, a complete waste of time...

4. Star Trek: The Next Generation was like that |
|
It took two seasons before it was any good.
The first season of DS9 was pretty meh too, though Battle Lines is a really good episode. I wish they'd done more with Kai Opaka before replacing her with Kai Winn though, although Kai Winn was a more complicated and DS9-like figure than the grandmotherly Opaka.

|
Well, and the male extras in skirts seen in the coridors in the first few episodes, which was both wierd and kinda cool I thought.

18. You know, there are ways to screen the reruns... |
|
1. If they're wearing a one-piece uniform, the episode will probably suck.
2. If Riker doesn't have a beard, the episode will probably suck.
3. The longer that Worf's hair is, the better the episode will probably be.

I think it was Firefly's critical commentary on religious nutters and corporate control (the Alliance).
I'm not a sci-f fan, but liked the show on DVD. Now we'll never get Book's back story.

I thought the first two seasons of Family Guy were the funniest. And the series is still funny after all this time.
Anyways, the early episodes of The X-Files were great. It was the last two seasons of the show where it jumped the shark.

25. Really early X-Files was great |
|
It was cool how it was still really unknown and cultish as well, it kinda took some of the fun out of it when everybody else found it.

28. Gotta disagree re: Family Guy |

They were pretty unusual in that seasons 1&2 were hysterical in my opinion!!
Since then I actually think the series has gone downhill.

If I remember since I only saw the reruns. But I remember a good one about a ghost town. One that was very funny was when there was a fight in the barn and both guys keep grabbing what every tool was handy to use as a weapon. Most were hammy though.

30. Some shows take a while to hit their stride |
|
The first episodes of Seinfeld are like from another universe. Jason Alexander is doing a bad Woody Allen imitation instead of his great Larry David imitation. Kramer is a slow-witted doofus. Instead of a fast-talking conniver. And Elaine barely exists at all.
